Wild Arms 5 Screenshots

wa510.jpg

Wild Arms was one of those games that I really got into when it first came out for it's unique qualities. It was a traditional RPG but it took place in a western style environment (gasp!) and seemed to center on gun-totin' rather than swordplay (double gasp!!). But each successive game seemed to lose more and more charm for me. The Zelda-like puzzles were entertaining but always a little too easy, although I liked the inclusion. The characters were repeatedly recycled until the games no longer seemed fresh, but stale as a Drag Queen singing Madonna. Just the same tropes, over and over. Plus, contrary to popular opinion, pirates and cowboys really don't mix.

Just in time for the series' 10th anniversary, Wild Arms 5 might be no different, but I'm still holding out hope. Taking up the mantle of the recent RPG trend with cel-shaded anime looking character models and a brisk and clean overworld map that Level-5 nailed in Dragon Quest VIII as well as the ever popular "talking head" word balloons, I don't see it winning any points for originality. I do like the character design though, and some of the boys are pretty cute in their western boots. RPGamer has posted not only screenshots and character art, but a look at the cover art as well. What do you all think? Aye or Nay?

Did you play Wild Arms 4? They mixed the formula up a bit with that one. I've been a Wild Arms fan as well since the first game. The only game in the series I didn't like was Alter Code F. The first game didn't need a remake.

I'll always play the Wild Arms games. They're like Final Fantasies to me--I might not always love 'em, but I can't help myself. Hopefully they'll have refined WA4's Hexagon battle system for this one. It wasn't bad, but it definitely needed work.

Pretty cool artwork... I'm diggin' the cowboy with the green energy-lookin' sword. I'm a little disturbed by the pink cowgirl, though. She stole Yuna's Daisy Dukes.

I like the character designs as well. Cute!

I've been a fan since #1 as well, and I've liked them all. 3 is my least favorite. 4 was terribly easy. But I'm still looking forward to 5.

I agree with what HectorCalabar said... I'll always play these games.

I actually imported Wild ARMs 5 because I couldn't stand the wait. (This was before XSEED even announced it.) I enjoyed it quite a bit, much more so than Wild ARMs 4. Not only that, but it takes significantly longer to complete; took me about 45-50 hours for the main story, plus there is an assload of additional content. :D

Unfortunately there's no longer a 100 level Abyss, but rather a shortened 30 level one. However, to counter balance that, there are numerous other optional dungeons as well. (3 more that I can think of off the top of my head, plus the other sealed pillars.)

All in all, I enjoyed it thoroughly, I plan on importing XF so I can enjoy the additional content - adding even more game time to Wild ARMs 5 for me. :)

I can't wait to play Wild Arms 5! I've been a big fan of the Wild Arms series!

Actually, however, I find that the Wild Arms series has been very progressive. I also find that I agree with you in that it should keep up with its Western-style feel (Wild Arms 3 brought it back a little).

I say that I find Wild Arms very progressive and unique for its minor inclusions. Wild Arms 2 had a gay undertone (I don't care, lol, they were gay). Wild Arms 3 actually had a female as the lead, and also the female leading the group. She also had a male nemesis that she could keep up with. Wild Arms 4 had a female in the group who was also the one with the strongest attributes. She also had a sword (not many RPG heroines are swordsmasters).

Oh, and love the site by the way!
