Consoles Banned From U.K. Prisons

U.K. news outlet The Sun reports that officials have banned Xbox 360s, PS3s and Nintendo DSs from U.K. prisons after discovering that these systems have software that can allow the transmitting and receiving of radio signals. The fear is that inmates involved in terrorist plots could use the consoles to plan attacks with accomplices on the outside. Playstation 2s have also come under suspicion and are currently being investigated for possible banning.
This is all fine and good, but my question is, what are inmates doing with game consoles anyway? This is a prison, right? It's not some sort of luxury getaway where you get to spend your days frittering away time playing video games. Not that I think inmates need to spend all their time making license plates, breaking rocks and doing laundry, but give me a break. Something just seems inherently wrong here. Perhaps the U.K. government needs to take a closer look at why they are allowing such things in their prison system in the first place.
