Dave Karraker Leaving Sony

Sony Computer Entertainment America's Sr. Director of Corporate Communications, Dave Karraker, announced today that he'll be departing SONY this Friday - a year and a day after he assumed the position. In a letter to Joystiq and Kotaku and other outlets, Karraker made his plans known:
"I imagine you media sleuths will be unearthing this news soon, so I wanted to send you a personal email to let you know I have made the very difficult decision to leave Sony. I am saddened to leave such a great group of people, but I have been presented a global opportunity near my home in an industry where I have previous experience that I feel I must pursue."
Karraker is leaving for a position with Skyy spirits - so there's at least some humor to be found in endless driven-to-drink jokes. Vodka, as always, saves the day.
Kotaku asked Karraker what advice he'd give his as-yet-unnamed replacement. The response:
"Back when i was working on Sega there wasn't any such thing as blogging... Since I came back things had changed. I think there is a different way to work with the blogging community then the print community. It's trial and error, right now we have it working really well."
And as far as regrets go:
"Don't blackball Kotaku, that's my number one regret... I take that back I never said blackball. Don't get in an argument with Kotaku, that's my number one regret."
Dave Karraker made great headway in his year at Sony, and his positive influence was felt even through the fog of what must have been a very difficult course-correction. He came on board doing instant damage control and left SCEA in a much better position - and we wish him the best of luck with all that vodka!
