Halo 3 Arrives; World Stops... Or At Least Part Of It

So Halo 3 launched today. I wish I could say I was excited, but honestly I'm a dreadfully horrible player and playing ends up being a huge frustration for me. Nonetheless, there's a ton of people out there who are really excited about it and the Halo marketing department has been working overtime. Funny thing is, over here in Japan, you wouldn't even know the game was coming out. I have seen one, count them ONE, Halo 3 ad since I've been here. I will admit it was quite large and on the side of a building but ironically, it was placed right behind a giant tree and you couldn't really see it. Now conversely, Final Fantasy: Crisis Core is EVERYWHERE! I've seen commercials on the subway and TV, posters, soundtrack CDs and even a dedicated song and music video by local vocalist Ayaka. I guess it's all just a matter of perspective...

Interesting perspective. I wonder if the western hemisphere's exposure (read: advertising campaigns) for new MMO's and RPG's will pick up when Square-Enix finds a new publisher. ;)
Shows the Japanese have their priorities right. :-p
I'm equally excited about both. Though I have to say this heavy ass Legendary Edition of Halo 3 is really cool. The helmet is much larger than I had thought it would be.
Not a fan of FPS on a console, really don't want to use a joypad. The reviews have been giving it full marks and what not.
Most of my Chinese and Asian friends have absolutely no interest in Halo 3, nor Bioshock (they thought it was okay), so you can tell what works over here doesn't necessary translate to those audiences very easily.
Half the people at my job are gone today.
After playing the game, I can honestly say that it's just another FPS. Nothing more, and nothing less...
I am bit confused on why it's getting such high ratings on game sites and in magazines. It feels almost exactly like the last Halo. Run and gun, repeat process over and over. Yawn...
I always knew I loved Japan.
Kid,
I think it's just a continuation of the story line. Sure, it may not be any better than Halo 2, but Halo 2 was a pretty good shooter, primarily because of the story (which is probably why BioShock is so popular?).
I've yet to play it (got about 36 miutes left on the clock!), but from what I hear, a lot of the "hawtness" is in the multiplayer aspects. Don't quote me, cause I haven't played it, but I'm sure most of the game's appeal will be because it's the Halo story.
The Japanese also love those skin care games on the DS...and dating simulators...and Tamagotchi.
Anyways, comparing FFVII CC and Halo is like comparing apples and oranges. They're not even on the same types of platforms.
