Harmonix Confirms $169 Price Tag For RockBand

What a twisted price!

We've all been wondering what the price of Harmonix's latest creation will be. One hundred and sixty-nine dollars ($169). Sticker shocked? I am just a tiny bit as it's about $30 more than I imagined it would be. Of course, the box (and I bet it's a big one) includes a drum kit, microphone, guitar and the game. The PlayStation 2 version of the game won't be out until 2008, but like hte PlayStation 3 edition, it will feature wireless guitars. The Xbox 360's guitar will remain wired until one is made available at a later date. Why or exactly when? Jeebus only knows. The release date, however, has been set for November 23...just in time for the Holiday Shopping Season Madness. Perhaps the box will be big enough to push through the hordes of shoppers like Frank West with a lawn mower?

I'm not happy with the price, but I'll likely be strong armed into buying at some point. That and I know my purchase of the Halo 3 Legendary Edition will enter the argument and I won't really have a strong argument for not spending $30 more for something in which everything is playable. It's still la shame the helmet isn't big enough for my head. Are you going to buy Rock Band it when it comes out?

Is that the *only* SKU being offered? Yeesh, that might be a little out of reach for the college crowd who is one of the bigger pushers of GH. I would have expected them to offer both the full set and game with guitar + microphone with the drum kit and guitar as add-ons. (I would have said just guitar, but I think the microphone is the one they might have the most trouble moving solo, and packing the microphone makes it seem less like a GH copycat.)

Actually for a long time the price was anticipated to be approx. $200, so this $169 price point will be a pleasant surprise to a lot of people, especially those who pre-ordered. I used to work at GameStop, and a lot of people were reserving the game even at the $200 price point, so I can only see this as helping to increase sales.

well the lack of a wireless guitar on the 360 means i won't be getting the bundle. i'm not buying multiple guitars anymore. and because they are not sure when they will be releasing a wireless controller, i probably won't be getting the game at all. unless it will work with guitar hero controllers. in addition that, price drop should be added for 360 owners, there's no reason they should have to pay the same price for an inferior product.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
