New Street Fighter Movie Gets A Director
A new live action film adaptation of Capcom's Street Fighter will have Andrzej Bartkowiak ("Romeo Must Die," "Cradle to the Grave") as director...yay? I still have nightmares from the first live action movie of that same name (did you know there was a game based on that movie?). So bad it could probably give Dead or Alive a run for its money. The story focuses on Chun Li and her "quest for justice," whatever that might be. I'm sure it has something to do with murdered friends/family. To make things better, Justin Marks ("Voltron," "Super Max") did the script and is currently doing a polish job on it. Let us hope he gets as much tarnish off of it as possible. Production begins early next year and Fox will be the distributor.
So, my initial verdict on this movie? Game Over! It's a damn shame that Street Fighter was Raul Julia's last movie.

Oh Capcom, didn't you learn your lesson on this one the first time?
Meh, I like the first one. It wasn't a masterpiece of cinema, but then I doubt it was intended to be.
And sure, it wasn't entirely true to the games.
But if you can see past that, it's a pretty entertaining little romp of an action movie.
I wonder if this time they'll once again mispronounce Ryu's name even after dealing with Japanese companies for rights and having Japanese speaking people involved in the movie.
Why not?
Dubbed videogames and anime constantly have mispronounced names.
So I doubt a movie based on a videogame would fare any better.
I really wish they'd find a Japanese person (any Japanese person) and ask for the right pronounciation, because it always annoys me to hear it.

Compare the way the characters in the live action Street Fighter movie mispronounce it (rah-yoo) to the way the dub VAs in Street Fighter II V do (ree-yoo). They at least had a clue...
