Rumor: 40GB PS3 For The Holidays?

So it would seem that Sony has a little something up their sleeves. They've submitted a PlayStation 3 console to the FCC for validation that has a new model number. The 60GB and 80GB models are CECHA01 and CECH01, but this new one is CECHG01, which has many speculating that it's the long-rumored 40GB model meant to hit stores in time for the holidays at $399, which puts it in spitting distance of the Xbox 360.
Apparently, the documentation lists no major differences, but in the filing, Sony asked the FCC not to publish specs or photos of the device. So what have they got to hide? The whole thing gets even more complicated as the article speculates about various manufacturers and whatnot, but all I care about is that there might be a reasonably priced alternative coming on the horizon. And I bet it would brighten Sony's holiday considerably!
Then again, maybe they're just going to release that silver one with the hideous boomerang controller!
