Rumor: DualShock 3 (aka SixAxis RUMBLE) To Be Unveiled On Thursday?
This rumor has been bouncing up and down and all around the intertubes ever since rumble equipped SixAxis controllers supposedly found their way into the hands of developers in early August. So now, as CVG puts it, "All eyes are on Sony whipping out the rumble-enabled version of the SixAxis controller at the Tokyo Game Show this weekend, as rumours reach a climax on the net."
You naughty, naughty boy. Of course, we very likely won't know anything until Mr. Kaz Hirai delivers his keynote address on Thursday at the Tokyo Game Show. Hopefully, we'll get news the moment we hear of it since Tiny and Brutus Fruitus will be over there. Rumble, I was surprised to find, is actually something that I miss. Playing Final Fantasy X this past weekend and other games in general on the PS3, I sometimes expect a jolt when I get hit, yet it never comes. How is it supposed to come without any vibrating mechanism inside? Hmmm....

Oh please oh please oh please....
I suppose it's too much to ask to have rumble reverse-engineered into Motorstorm, but it would make me such a happy camper. I love that game.
well, it could be only a patch away, Spaz, so...
While I turn rumble off in a good handful of games, anything with heavy use of motion controls relies on rumble as it's sole sense of tactile feedback. I'm very glad that rumble is coming. I hope that Sony ponies up and offers some developers the ability/money to include rumble through an update (I'm mainly looking at Resistance, Motorstorm and Ninja Gaiden). I have little doubt that more recent titles will be quick to update (like Heavenly Sword(s), Lair, Warhawk).
I applaud Sony for settling with Immersion and getting their act together with something that's such "a last gen feature" [Harrison]. I can only hope that they will also see the benefit of offering gamers that already own one or more DualShock-less controllers some type of monetary incentive/discount to buy what should have come in the system's box.
Question for PS3 owners here: What's the maximum amount of money would you pay for a PS3 controller with rumble? $30? $40? $50?
Personally, I'm not sure. There are games that are coming out that will use rumble in interesting ways (Metal Gear has always been creative there), but at the same time I'm reluctant to drop what would normally cost me a game just for one feature.
Well, game-boi, given that current rumble-less Sixaxis controllers retail for about $50 right now, I highly doubt that a controller made by Sony with more features (rumble, anything else they might toss in there) would go for anything less than $50.
