Samba De Amigo Heads To The Wii

Rejoice, fans of the Sega cult classic Samba De Amigo, for the brand is not lost. The Sega Dreamcast title, Samba De Amigo is heading to a Wii near you. The original title used two special maracas to control a maraca shaking monkey in a truly fantastic rhythm game. Don't worry about having to buy an extra peripheral for the Wii, the standard controllers work just fine.
In a strange turn of events, Gearbox Software will be developing this title, who also developed Brothers In Arms. Hmmm... interesting. Previous effort being a WWII shooter, it's a natural progression for them to take on maraca-wielding monkeys. Well, at least they are making this game. The original was one of the brightest stars on the much-beloved Dreamcast.
One of the best aspects of the original title besides the booty shaking beats and patented Sega bright, cheery graphics, were the actual maracas. The controllers had little beads in them and handled like real maracas. I would have never known the joy of Samba De Amigo had I not convinced Fruit to buy the maracas back in the day. For a few short weeks, we had the times of our lives dancing in front of the TV, before this was an accepted thing to do in front of your friends. Then the third party peripheral broke and all hope was lost. Thank you Wii, for making it okay to look like a complete jackass as long as you are holding a controller. Hopefully someone will make Maraca snap-ons for the Wii version, for authenticity sake.

I still have my maracas and they are fabulous!
Yes! I hoped for this day to finally come. I love Samba De Amigo!
i also was hoping this would come to the wii. i mean, it's an obvious choice. even if they just port it. i never actually got to play the game with the maracas, and the PS2 cam version pretty much sucked. so i'm looking forward to this. i hope they make a port that is a combo of the first two titles, so that it has all of the songs in one big pack, yay! online playability was nice.
My friend had Samba de Amigo with the maracas and we had a blast. I hope the Wii iteration is as much fun.
I think the best part was the music (or racket) we made with the maracas. I hope they find a way to have the Wii-motes make noise (and I don't want the speakers in the wii-mote making the maracas shaking sound).
I am disproportionately excited for this.
Sega + Monkeys = Fun!
I'm not so sure Gearbox is an odd choice for this venture. Gearbox has done great work with Valve in the past. Valve is outstandingly fabulous when it comes to creating great software. So fabulous that I believe they are run by aliens. I have always thought that Nintendo was run by aliens for the same reason.
I, for one, welcome our alien entertainment overlords. :)
I'm a DDR guy myself (see pic below... yes, it's an older picture with me sporting Airwalks and Pipes. God bless the 90's!), but have always had my eye on the DK title that used bongos, and wondered if rhythm games could be as fun as DDR is... alas, I've yet to purchase it. I did manage to play the Rayman mini-game for the Wii a few weeks ago, and that had a distinct "maracas" feel to it, so I can definitely see this working.

I'm starting to think Sega has been planning for the Wii for a long time....first Nights and now Samba....I wonder what news Sega will let the castle uncover next.
