TGS 07: Yaoi And Crisis Core In Tokyo!

While Fruit Brute was sleeping off the dregs of last night's Kotaku party, myself and GayGamer special Asian Reporter Takashi Takanawa braved the crowded streets of Shibuya for a little media blitz at the nearby Tsutaya record store. Did we find music? We didn't even look - we were too busy staring at the Final Fantasy: Crisis Core merchandise and adverts - which were freaking everywhere. Crisis came out here in Japan just recently, and Square Enix has certainly got the home front covered, in terms of marketing. See some of the insanity below.
I also forced Takashi to hunt the lower recesses of the store for yaoi, which he obliged. As we made our way past manga after manga ("OMG, Naruto!" "OMG, Fullmetal Alchemist!" "OMG, Ursula K. LeGuin's Earthsea???"), I kept my eyes open for anything that screamed "teenage girl," which is how yaoi is marketed. When I found the yaoi section I giggled like a teenage girl, but there the resemblance ended.
In the pic above you can see me making out with a book that shows two men on the cover, one scratched and bloody and holding a bottle of champagne, the other caressing the first fella while helping him aim a gun - with the champagne cork in his mouth all the while. Needless to say, I was in love.
I'll make sure to snap up some yaoi while we're here...and if we're lucky and the boss approves, we'll have a yaoi giveaway contest!

Tsutaya and Square want shoppers to notice Crisis Core. Mission accomplished.

Of course, I'd rather have looked at steamy yaoi like these...

But even so, it was pretty hard to avoid Crisis Core - I almost toppled this whole display!

Yaoi + Final Fantasy + Tiny = Yay!

Unless I am being wooshed, the reason for the Earthsea manga is because an anime movie based on Earthsea was released sometime last year--by Studio Gibhli, no less, directed by Hayao Miyazaki's son.
You are so lucky *cries* i like yaoi and Final Fantasy Crisis Core im gonna commandeer my brothers psp for it. *cries* lucky gaygamer journalists *cries* *wails*
Okay, if I wasn't jealous before, I am now.
I want to go to a store where there are shelves upon shelves of yaoi. I would so clean out there (with probably an odd look from the person at the checkout counter).
Closest thing I have is the convention I have coming up next month which so far has always had a stand with a fair amount of yaoi there. Not too big a selection though.
Next time, take me along please. :P
> . . . an anime movie based on Earthsea was released sometime last year--by Studio Gibhli, no less. . .
*Drool*. I can has Earthsea?
With Harry Potter mania waning, and the much superior *Golden Compass*'s first installment a few months yet in its movie release, will this flick fill in the magical gap for the masses?
Probably not, but I'd sure like to see it anyway.
But a yaoi version? The mind boggles.
Of course, I'd rather have looked at steamy yaoi like these...
Maybe I'm projecting here, but wouldn't you have rather looked at outright gay manga like these? (NSFW!)
If so, to Ni-Chome with ye!
I don't believe you're in Japan at all. That looks exactly like my local Japanese book store. I'll have to go check to see if they have the bloody champagne gun yaoi manga. Yeah.
Holy crap if I could get my hands on that huge ad for Crisis Core, I'd cover a wall with it in my apartment or office.
Haha and I love the last pic, Tiny. Gold.
So where's the pictures of the boy geishas you guys are supposed to be bringing back?
I spelled Ghibli wrong. Figures.
Anyway, Leafy:

Unfortunately, if you're in the US, you're gonna have to wait a couple years to see this one. But here's some info for ya. (No word on any steamy Earthsea yaoi, sadly.)
I have a t-shirt just like this one. I'd rather just have tiny yaoi than.
All I can say is, bring them to me!!
Oh yeah love that first pic lol. I probably would've done the same thing.
I say the book is the lucky one!
Oh my gosh! (young, built) Bill Gates is on the cover of one of those gay mangas! Here -->
So tiny, yeah, you *are* so lucky. I wish I couldn't been in Japan too :'(
Okay, I guess my link just stood me up. Let's try this again--[url=http://www.rainbow-shoppers.com/en/www/list.cgi?id=G000706400017]tada![/url]
Okay, you know what? I give up. How did you add a link, Zombot?
In the meantime, for anyone who cares, the web address is "rainbow-shoppers dot com slash en slash www slash list dot cgi?id=G00070640001." I hope that helps.
Fevrin - I used ye olde simple HTML in place of that newfangled BBCode. (Seriously, I almost made the same mistake when I first commented)
Okay--thanks :)
yeah def go to ni-chome for that but those shops are more of porn shops with hentai-yaoi in it.
just wondering if anyone been to a store in akihabara (there two days ago) that had a section for final fantasy stuff + Boy Love Boy Games? They were mostly for PS2 and this was the first time I've seen those.
Wow, that looks nigh identical to the bookstore I was in, but that was the train station in Kyoto, so it can't be.
Ra, what I wouldn't give to be back in Japan. Lucky you!
