A Note About User Mods In UT3 On The PS3

For Unreal Tournament 3, the PS3 version actually has an edge on the console competition, since it will support user mods. It’s rare that a console will support user generated maps, or mods of any kind, so this is a welcome addition to the PS3 version, that Xbox 360 users cannot take advantage of.
When UT3 ships for the PC, it will come with a full suite of Unreal Engine 3 tools, the same tools that developers have used to make Gears of War and Bioshock to UT3 also. When a level or mod is created, the user has the ability to save for PC or for PS3 with the “export to PS3” option in the toolset. The file can then be passed around by email, or posted on a site. Players can download the file to a memory stick and load it up on the PS3, or the file can be hosted on a dedicated server and when a player logs onto the server, the file is transferred to the player’s system.
UT3 for the PS3 will ship later than the PC counterpart, PS3 users must be used to the delays in releases by now. -_- What that means for PS3 gamers isn’t that bad through, maps and mods will be available from the start once the Blu-ray is popped into the system, which is a comforting thought.
