Analysts Poop On Microsoft's Party

Video game analysts are a cold, hard breed with hearts of stone. Just days after Microsoft touted their amazing September hardware sales, outselling the PS3 5 to 1 (and just squeaking past the Wii), Gamasutra asked Jesse Divinch of simExchange to kill the pony and send the clown home.
... though the Xbox 360 saw higher sales than both the Wii and DS, Divinch says the victory "is expected to be short lived with the Wii regaining the top spot for the remaining months in 2007.""In a way, the Wii is still victorious," he concluded. "The Wii faced many obstacles in September, including: hardware constraints, strong first party titles on other consoles, no strong releases of its own platform, and announcements of software bundling and price cuts from its competitors."
Still, Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan expects game sales for Microsoft to increase in the next few months up until the end of the year, as the newly expanded user base of Halo 3 players "will be ready for a new challenge." As for Playstation 3, well, things probably won't get much worse. Divinch pops the balloons of those hoping for a post-price cut surge though, saying it "is not expected to change the PS3’s market share at the end of the season."
