Rumorama: Animal Crossing For Wii, MMO Style
It seems like the Animal Crossing series has always aspired to be a fully functional Massive Multiplayer Online game, but was limited by the technology it was built upon. The series has been outrageously successful for Nintendo, selling over seven million copies. Now with the Wii, Animal Crossing will finally come into its own with an (alleged) MMO treatment. Players have been able to travel to each other’s town by memory card with the GameCube game, and by Wi-Fi with a friend code on the DS. Hopefully the game will recognize all of your system friend codes instead of game-specific codes.
The game has not been officially announced yet, but Nintendo has admitted that an Animal Crossing game is in development for the Wii. Details are currently scant, but there have been some hints dropped as to the direction of the upcoming game. Head of development Katsuya Eguchi, has made some comments concerning the ability for players to send messages through their cell phones and PCs.
I would like to see Animal Crossing for the Wii to be Nintendo’s answer to PlayStation Home, minus the impending corporate presence. Animal Crossing could be used to send messages to everyone you know in the game or just on your buddy list. This time, it would be great to send an item in the mail, or several items, and receive payment through the mail. Hopefully there will be a gathering place like a city where players can meet one another. There is great potential for the Animal Crossing series, and it has only gotten exponentially better from the GameCube to the DS. Maybe soon Nintendo will come out with some official announcements about it soon, but I wouldn’t expect anything before the holidays.

I played the game on the DS and even though it really wasn't my cup of tea, I think if Nintendo made Animal Crossing an MMO and did it right they'd have gold.
While I don't think Animal Crossing has much to do with Playstation Home, I will scream like a little girl the second Animal Crossing Wii is officially announced.
Making it online is a must. Although Nintendo have started going in that direction, it is still not brilliant and very slow going. Looks like something to look forward to :)
Can't wait till this happens, though I must admit, I'm going to have to be careful about who I let in my town since some people have a habit of chopping down all your trees and taking all your stuff.
