Asteroid Named After George Takei
OK, this is not gaming-related. At all. Kinda gay-related. And very nerdy. So, y'know, forgive me for sharing this little nugget. George Takei, GayGamer's favorite cast member of Star Trek, was honored to discover that an asteroid orbiting between Mars and Jupiter had been named after him:
"I am honored, indeed transported to the galaxies, to know that my name has been assigned to an astronomical object in our solar system," Takei told the site. "I am yet to come down to Earth."Asteroid 7307 Takei is approximately 5 miles in diameter, located in an orbit ranging between 2.5 and 3.0 AUs from the sun in the mid-solar-system asteroid belt. It was discovered in 1994 by two Japanese astronomers.
Takei's name was nominated by astronomers not only for his role as Hikaru Sulu, but also for his prominent roles with both the Japanese American Citizens League and the Human Rights Campaign. Congratulations Sulu! One more reason why you're cooler than Kirk!
