Conan Demo Hits Xbox LIVE, Enjoys De' Lamentations Of De' Gamers

The Conan demo hit Xbox Live sometime yesterday, and I somehow managed to not notice. For those that don't have a 360 but possess a PlayStation 3, the demo will land on the PlayStation Network on October 11. Yes, the game does look like a God of War clone with a Conan-themed skin wrapped all over it, but I've just got to give it a shot. If it weren't for all these games I'm trying to review, I'd dedicate some time to try it out myself, but it's going to have to wait a day or two while I get things together. In the meantime, if you've tried it out, please feel free to leave your impressions with us. From what one friend told me, he produced a few lamentations while playing this demo. Anyways, make the jump for the press release.

About the Conan Playable Demo
In the Conan playable demo, the famed barbarian finds himself stranded in the Barachan Isles, a haven for pirates and thieves. A terrible plague known as the Black Death has spread across the land, and Conan must escape before it consumes him as well. Fortunately, Conan crosses paths with the beautiful and fearless warrior queen, A’Kanna, whose ship can provide safe passage from the cursed islands. However, Conan must first save the ship’s crew, which has been enslaved by the local cutthroats. Players will take on the role of Conan as he unleashes his savagery against a horde of scurvy pirates. The demo will allow players to execute a portion of the game’s 100+ fighting moves and combinations as Conan decimates his foes using a variety of deadly weapons, hand-to-hand combat and even his surrounding environment.

I have no idea what everyone is talking about, calling this game garbage. I had an incredibly fun time with the demo and played it several times over. I also don't get how it's a god of war clone, unless "God of War clone" is the new name for the fantasy action video game genre. This is just a brutal, high-action video game with a great voice cast (so far. Ron Perlman's sexy vocal cords are behind the grim Cimmerian), a cool weapon system where every weapon an enemy drops can be picked up and wielded, and a very brutal and to the point combat style. Personally, I give the demo 8/10. It's not Bioshock, but it also doesn't need to be. All you naysayers, go play the demo, hack some pirates up as your giant barbarian, do some counterattacks, and marvel at the product THQ has made. It's finally something good!
I went into the demo with a neutral view. I knew about the hype surrounding it, but I wasn't really paying any attention to any of that so I was curious as to how it would play out. It's...aiiiight. My main problem with the game is that it didn't have that same brutal feel as a game like Devil May Cry of God of War, which is alright in a sense, seeing as how Conan is only a man and NOT Chuck Norris (I had to! I'm sorry!) but still! I'm not really digging the graphics, they looked a bit too washed out for me. But...I dunno, it might be one of those games that's worth a rental, but I'd probably never buy it. I'd give it a 6/10
