D&D Minis: Desert of Deformity?

fuglyDnDminis.jpg

Wow. So, I caught wind a few days ago that the ravening masses over at Hordelings—a well-connected fan site for diehard D&D Miniatures fans—had posted up a healthy number of scans from the set poster for next month's D&D Minis expansion, Desert of Desolation. Taking a peek at their selection, boy-oh-boy did it look like someone had left the corral door open at Rancho Deformo. Talk about some ugly minis.

Fortunately, today Maxminis has posted up the complete preview poster (in obnoxiously horizontal pieces), restoring the balance between the fetching and the fugly. Finally! A shadar-kai with lavender stretch pants! Why this wasn't in Harbinger I'll never know.

The scuttlebutt also has it that many of these creatures are based off of Dungeons & Dragons fourth edition reconcepting, which, unfortunately doesn't light me on fire. I guess I'm just not a big fan of change for the sake of change. (Real quick, eye-exam time: Better One, or Better Two?) This new edition talk certainly rings true, since the leaked pictures include some box art with the that's been making the rounds on all the 4E hullabaloo. On the upside, the classic stuff that gets left alone, like the Umber Hulk, looks awesome! Oh... and there's a farmer.... with a pig.

Count me in the "Better two" camp.

Though that may also because one's a sketch and the other is a finalized, colored image.

But... um... ettercaps are spider-y guys right? Why's the one in picture one have six legs and look like the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland?
