Have Faith In The Orange Box

Although I was perversely fascinated with my Saturday night viewing of Ferrets: The Pursuit of Excellence on PBS, I managed to scurry over to The Girl Gamer for a look into The Orange Box. I had previously lumped this game into the large, Katamari-style mental blob that I have come to know as "more first person shooters," but Faith's look at Valve's five-in-one offering has given me reason to think twice. Much like her, I'm not the best FPS player out there, but the comedic tone and unique visual style of Team Fortress 2 definitely has my interest. That and I need to find out what the commotion with these weighted companion cubes is all about.
Inside The Orange Box [The Girl Gamer]

Never underestimate valve. They are, by far, the best producers of shooter games, and i only say that because personally, I think they infact make some of the BEST games. Period.
See, i never once picked up an FPS that wasn't named Bioshock until I heard about Portal on the Orange Box. Now I'm playing through the first Half-Life via Steam so taht I can prepare to play through the rest of the Orange Box!
I gotta say, I'm really upset that I waited this long to play Half Life 2. I first bought it on PC several years ago, in the Gold Edition... But then I just somehow never got around to playing it, until I bought the Orange Box on 360. (I'm way more of a console person)
Anyway, new favorite game ever. I feel like I have been missing out. I could have played this game like thirty times by now!!!!
I tried to be cynical and sober about Portal - the gameplay mechanic seemed fun but limited, as far as a puzzle game goes, and "funny" games are usually a turn off for me. By the fifth stage I realized I was completely wrong - it really is not-to-be-missed and my favorite thing on the O'Box (with the caveat I have not made it to episode 2 yet).
Thanks for the link.
I tend to hate FPS but ever once in a while a game screams play me. Half Life 2 is one. Call of Duty 2, Dark Watch and Oddworld: Stranger's Wraith are three more.
Amazing games.
I even played Duke Nukem, Golden Eye and Doom in the past.
I love my weighted companion cube.
The humour of portal elevates it high above anythign else ever.
