Impressions: Virtua Fighter 5

Remember back in the day when you'd play a fighting game, and the beautifully rendered CGI characters from the intros would segue into blocky polygons for the game? Well, those days are good and gone. I just tried out the new demo of Virtua Fighter 5 for the Xbox 360 they just put up on Xbox Live, and I can't believe I thought Virtua Fighter 4 looked amazing!
You're given a choice of four characters and you can fight through three stages. You can also play a versus match, but not online. The CPU must be set to easy, because I breezed through the three levels with each character I tried (Turns out I still prefer Sarah). There are other modes, but none of them were available in the demo. The arenas look gorgeous, and depending on the environment are either open, enclosed, or offer ring-outs. The character models are phenomenal, and in high-def, you can almost see the sweat on Akira's arms. (Tasty!) Animations are good, but I still feel like they could be more fluid and hit detection could be tighter (though I feel like that with nearly every fighting game I've ever played). The only complaint I can offer at this point is the voice acting, which was pretty weak for the English-speaking characters. At least Akira spoke in Japanese, so I couldn't tell if his voice actor was any good or not!
This demo is definitely worth a download to hold you over until the October 30 release of the full game, where you can then gloat to your PS3-owning friends about how your 360 version has full online vs. play! Neener neener!

Hee hee... I would be more jealous except I already played and sold the game months ago.
And most probably too busy playing Tekken 6 online to care. :P
@Spaz&Reign:
uhhh...don't worry guys. You can still come to my house for some VF5 Online. See, we Xbox360 owners don't hate you we just hate $ony and we actually feel your pain because your PS3 is so crappy. But don't worry, one game of Gears or Halo3 and too can switch and we will welcome you to our world.
P.S. We are waiting for you on this side and yes the grass is greener here.
Played it today. The graphics sure were great.
And Brad (I think) was all kinds of sexy with his open shirt. Very yummy abs.
@Ed:
ROFL! I'm looking to switching to your world so I can hate Sony because the PS3 is so crappy and I can lay on the superior grass whilst playing Halo 3 and GoW. Had it not occurred to you that possibly some 360 owners like myself actually like the PS3 and aren't all raving fanboys like urself? Thanks for the invite though....looking forward to it.
I had really been looking forward to VF5 coming to the 360, but after playing through the demo I won't be buying a copy. It was so boring! I hate the way the characters move, so boxy and blah. The graphics are good, but that certainly doesn't make up for the fact that the fighting is dullsville.
COME ON! VF has always been a more strategic fighting game, but it can be played faster, it mostly depends on how much time you put into the game and each character. If you don't like it though, well...the fighting mechanics haven't changed much, so....BOO YOU!
I am still sold to this game even if I played the arcade and PS3 ver. Online play is where this game will give some legs (sexy manly legs) ;)
