Mass Effect Novel: Any Good?

Yeah, I saw the Mass Effect novel in the Barnes & Noble while waiting for the bf to get his midnight copy of the final Harry Potter book (God, what an ordeal). At the time, I was all caught up in they hype for this hot-looking game, and seriously considered buying it, even though it costs like, seven bucks. Seriously? I know I don't read much anymore, but when did the $4.95 paperback novels start costing $6.95 or more? That's just wrong.
Anyhoo, I passed on it at the time, preferring to spend my commute gaming instead of reading, but I kept wondering if it was any good and if it might help prepare my brain for the no-doubt complicated political wrangling of the Mass Effect universe. Well, Aeropause has posted a review of it, and while it gives away little more than the back-of-the-book copy as far as a description goes, it does claim that it's an easy, breezy read (but is it beautiful, too?) and sets the stage for the game. It's not really much of a review, but it reminded me that the book exists and now I'm kind of tempted again.
So any of you read this? Is it worth picking up? Maybe I should just check my local library...
Mass Effect: Revelation Book Review [Aeropause]

I'm on the last chapter of it now, actually. The review really says all that needs to be said: it's an easy read that sets up the game. If you're interested in the game/the ME universe, give it go. It's a decent read and you can knock it out fairly quickly.
I read it shortly after it came out, and it was not bad, by any means, but it wasn't really revolutionary either. The best part of it is the early chapter that explains the universe, how humans got into the space community and whatnot. ON the one hand, it was a great 'set up' for the game, but on the other hand since I was not familiar with any of the characters, races, or settings of the game, it made it a little hard for me to get too invested. Closer to the release date of the game, I might have enjoyed it more.
It's great as backstory for the game, but like the posters above have stated...it's nothing revolutionary. For $7 it's a decent value (like you wouldn't have paid that much extra if it were included in the special edition :-P )
