Orange Box Updated With Team Fortress 2 Fixes

ecstatictf2.jpg

Destructoid is reporting that the Xbox 360 version of Valve's The Orange Box has been updated with a new patch, mostly resolving issues with the multiplayer portion of the game, Team Fortress 2.

  • Reduced network bandwidth usage in multiplayer.
  • Improved overall game performance.
  • Arranged search results to favor preferred host conditions.
  • Improved searching for ranked games.
  • Addressed a possible false report of too little storage space on larger hard drives.

Unfortunately, the patch doesn't fix the fugly cover art or make the name of the game sound any less dirty when you say it out loud. You should see the looks you get when you say, "I spent all last night playing with my Orange Box" in a crowded restaurant.

Lag and balance problems in the multiplayer have been the main blemish on this otherwise stellar package. Personally, I've spent my time on Portal and Half Life 2, as the complaints (and my general lack of skill) have kept me from joining the multiplayer fracas. Anyone else going to check out the changes after the update? Let us know if you notice a difference.

It's safe to play Team Fortress 2 on Xbox 360 now

Even being gay, I'm pretty sure boxes aren't orange. Tho, that may be why you're getting the strange looks.

I played last night after the patch and it certainly seemed to run smoother. The first time I played, it was like a slide show. Last night, there were times when things got chuncky, but mostly when there were lots of explosions and more than six players on screen. I'm enjoying Team Fortress... and it doesn't take as much skill as you think. Pick a class, stick with it and you'll get the gist in a round or two. Play something like an engineer or medic and your team will love you.

They'll still say "fag" all the time, but they won't mean it in a bad way.

*sigh*

Zadie,
Cool, I'll have to man up and just get online at some point soon. I tend to overthink these things and have a good time once I'm online anyway.

I didn't notice much wrong with the first version to be honest, although all of my games are usually hosted by friends in Australia. I've had 2 patches applied and haven't noticed any difference...

That being said the game is polished and awesome. Being an original TF1 guy I think this is a great version of it.

Usually it's my thumbs that get sore playing but this time it's my face from laughing so much.

Only drawback is when people on your team don't talk, you really need to communicate to dominate.

Am I right that less bandwidth usage will lead to less lag while playing online?

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
