Scariest Game Dialogue Ever!

vobook.jpg

To get everyone ready for Halloween, IGN teamed up with Audio Atrocities to bring gamers a collection of the 19 worst examples of horrifying videogame dialogue. Some will chill you to the bone with their nonsensical scripts, while others contain voice acting sure to make you squirm. There's the obvious "master of unlocking" from the original Resident Evil, and the awkward dialogue from Shenmue II, but there were a few I'd never heard of before that had me on the floor.

From Martian Gothic: Unification - "I'm getting very bad sensations from this. As if a cat had just licked my heart." (say what?!)

In Firefighter F.D. 18, a woman makes up a new word: "Well... I like red. It's fashionate. I have a lot of red clothes."

But the one that made me really laugh was from Castle Shikigami 2:
"Hi! What a cute boy. Interested in my body, aren't you..."
"Not interested."
"Ohh! You're into THAT."
"I like girls. But now, it's about justice."

Gotta have your priorities, right? The rest of the audio samples are worth a listen... don't be afraid!

"Remember that annoying girl in middle school who, whenever the teacher asked her to read aloud, spoke in an affected Disney/Broadway voice that made your skin crawl?"

I couldn't help it! I wanted to be Aladdin!

Is it a bad sign that there are multiple games on this list I totally love? :P

Honestly, the entire point of playing Dynasty Warriors 3 is for the wonderfully awful voice acting. My brother and friends and I still occasionally drop quotes from the game... and there are just so many great ones, although my favorite ("Yuan Shu, you attack from the rear.") really has to be heard out loud to be appreciated.

And c'mon, this scene with Zhang He is pure gold:

Oh man, even without Zhang He I have trouble playing the DW series without my brain creating huge amounts of homoerotic subtext.

And there are way awesomer Star Ocean 2 quotes than that. I have to say my favorite is one of Ernest's battle cries... he's got some Vortex Whip or something attack, and when you use it, he shouts "Engulf everything!" in this totally dumb voice. Mashing the attack button so he said it over and over again always made me giggle. Noel's voice acting was totally awful too. Ashton's an adorable hottie though, and when I was a kid and it wasn't creepy I was totally into Leon. "I'm king of the jungle!" "It's a natural result!" Ok, ok, I'm done.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
