The Wii60 Is Where It's At

According to a report from Screen Digest, the Wii, with 86 titles set for release in the fourth quarter including Super Mario Galaxy (U R MR GAY), will lead the way in sales this Holiday Season. In addition to that, the massive amount of hype coupled with stellar reviews for Halo 3 and the Xbox 360's own lineup of 37 games will help push a console or two into people's homes, as well. Sadly, "Sony’s release schedule lacks the firepower to command consumer attention during this crucial trading quarter and it is difficult to see how the catalogue will drive hardware sales in such a competitive environment." A spotty lineup of 38 games coupled with still high prices makes pricing the only way Sony can try to attract some new customers. Simply investing in potential isn't working, I know I am still waiting to see that potential for myself.
Report: Publisher Backed Wii Will Prosper in Q4 [Next Generation]

Even as a PS3 owner who is looking forward to many exclusive games for the system (Everyday Shooter this week! w00t!), this is pretty much the truth for the foreseeable future.
2008 looks like it's will be even more interesting with Wii still doing it's casual gamer thing (WiiFit) and the 360 cranking out hardcore stuff (Too Human next year?). Where's the PS3 going to fit in once it's heavy hitters start coming out?
Wait I'm confused. Xbox's 37-game lineup is going to be a reason for people to buy it, but Sony's 38-game lineup is not? I'm not sure I'm getting the logic there.
The logic is the Xbox 360 has around 200+ other titles that have been out since between launch and the end of Q3 2007, including Halo 3.
The 37 games is a reference to the the additional games coming out this quarter. PS3 will have less than half as many games by the end of Q4.
Sure the Xbox 360 has one less game...but you can't deny it has a more hyped and talked about software lineup between the two systems.
Let's be serious, the PS3's holiday line up is nail bitingly lack luster. For $400+ they'd better have a Halo 3, Smash Brothers, Mario Galaxy, killer in the works to sell that thing. GTA IV and HOME were the last saving graces.
It's getting late in the game to start waiting on a video game console's potential when the competition has something to show for their products already. Fact is most people are going to get wooed by the heavy hitters coming from Nintendo and MS this holiday season.
But if you want a "relatively" cheap blu-ray player, by all means pick up a PS3. Personally I buy video game consoles for games.
I honestly can't think of anything available now on the PS3 that is a "must-have" for me, and I don't see any coming up in the foreseeable future. The various RPGs that are scheduled to come out for it are the only things enticing me to buy one, and I don't know of any of them that have any sort of set release date. Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII might be enough to get me to buy the console, but if things go as I am hoping, Square Enix will be kind and bring them to the 360 as well. As for whether they will actually do that... I don't know. But with the way the PS3 is selling right now if they hope to actually make money on some of these games they might have to start looking at bringing more games over to the 360 and/or Wii.
