Tim Schafer Returns With Brütal Legend

Tim Schaffer’s studio Double Fine blew the critics out of the water with his stupendous platformer Psychonauts, unfortunately the overall sales have not reflected their enthusiasm. Many have missed out on the best of the platforming genre with Psychonauts. Not willing to go down with the ship, Schaffer plunged forward with a decidedly more marketable title with his upcoming game Brütal Legend for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
Jack Black stars as roadie Eddie Riggs who dies and must escape hell to reach rock heaven. Brütal Legend will be appearing in the November issue of Game Informer magazine as the cover story which delves into the mysterious title whose details have been scant until now.
Brütal Legend is a surreal ode to the mythology of rock and roll staring the talents of Jack Black and a stable of heavy metal legends.
Just from a look at the character art from the cover image makes me think that this was a smart move for Double Fine. The subject matter seems to be inspired by Metalocolypse, while the art reminds me of a modern take on Full Throttle. If the game lives up to Schaffer’s fine heritage of games, it should be another excellent adventure. Hopefully it will sell this time.
