Wii Internet Channel Freezes?
I recently upgraded my wireless network and I hadn't yet updated my Wii with the new settings. However, following all of today's announcements, I figured today would be a good time to do it and download all the updates. Everything looked good until I tried to launch the Internet Channel. Each time I would launch, it would cause the whole system to freeze. I was forced to power off the Wii each time. I must have tried four or five times. Is anyone else having trouble with it?

Sorry mikey wish i could help you but i didnt even download the internet channel.
Hmmm.
Maybe you should mess around with the network settings on the Wii. If you changed the wireless network, then the settings are likely different than they were before, and need to be updated to reflect the changes to the wireless network.
Also, does this problem also affect other online Wii functions, like the shop channel, or the voting channel?
After I downloaded the update for the Internet channel (which took FOREVER, btw), I opened it up to see if I could notice any immediate changes. I didn't freeze up, but then all I did was go to gaygamer.net for a second. Then I quit, because I had to go to work. Sounds suspicious, though. Wouldn't be surprised if there was a 3.2 system update in a week...
I'm with Beximus, I didn't download it either. Not that this is helping, Mikey, but on a side note why do you even use the Wii to surf the net? I've never quite understood that. (I assume you have a desktop or laptop of some sort)
I can offer this, I know the update didn't disturb the connection to my wireless. I checked the weather using the weather applet.

Thanks for the feedback. The wireless is all working perfectly. Thus, I was able to download all the updates. However, the Internet Channel still freezes. Maybe it's isolated to my system. I would speculate that I have a faulty launch day system, but I know Wootini has one too. So much for that theory. BTW, I really don't use the Internet Channel to surf the web, but it's a nice feature to show off to my non-gamer non-computer savvy friends who all want to see the Wii (still after almost a year.)
Mikey, try removing the channel and re-downloading it, maybe.
is this the beginning of the blue dotted line of death for the wii?????????????? LOL
Not only does the Wii firmware need to be updated, but the Internet and Everybody Votes channel needs to be redownloaded.
You'll see that both channels have "updated" on them on the shop channel. Just redownload and it should all work.
Nintendo likely did not do an automatic upgrade of these channels since not everyone has these two channels, making the individual download it themselves.
Least now the Internet channel can play flash programs again.
Nintendo needs to give Apple a call. It's kind of silly that the console can't keep inventory of what apps are installed and either auto-download updated versions or at least notify the user the updates are available and whether or not they're critical updates (it's only 15-20 lines of code, for cryin' out loud).

If your Wii is hooked up to your stereo, using the internet channel is a great way to listen to online music. I like finetune because they have a Wii interface.

The console DOES notify you that new versions are available.
I had three or four messages in my Wii in-box yesterday from Nintendo.
@Aximill: I updated both the Everybody Votes Channel and the Internet Channel in the Shop Channel. It was after that update that I froze.
@Squeech: I haven't yet tried to remove the Internet Channel and reinstall. Since it's now after June 2007, I believe it's supposed to cost 500 points to download. I really don't want to pay for something I already have that broke on an update.
Well aside from the obvious, calling Nintendo, my best guess would be that the 3.1 patch (or all-out replacement) of the Wii OS didn't install properly. The second most likely possibility is that some part of the wireless firmware needs updating.
And, Jeremiah:
I got the emails as well, but that's not the same as update automation where the versions and sequences of the updates are managed by the Engineers at Nintendo. Why should the user be expected to gleen that from emails when the device is already in constant contact with the manfctr's server?

My Browser froze up the other day, but I only got the generic Wii update, not the Browser update. Maybe that's my (and your) problem?
Iam with the same problem here :(
