Xbox Gives 5 Free Movies With HD-DVD Player To UK Customers

When Microsoft starts giving stuff away for free, you know something ain't right. To bolster the slowly, painfully sinking ship that is HD-DVD, Microsoft announced today a major promotion that sees upwards of £100 worth of free HD-DVDs packaged with the £114.99 Xbox 360 HD-DVD player.
The offer lasts until January 31, 2008, and has a big catch: British format fanboys will be able to pick five HD-DVDs out of a limited pool of 13 titles, and will have to send in a form along with the barcode of their new HD-DVD accessory, and can expect to wait up to 28 days to receive their bounty.
That's a pain in the ass, innit? The films available are a mixed bunch: Serenity, The Chronicles of Riddick, Hulk, Children of Men, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Troy, Full Metal Jacket, Corpse Bride, The Prestige, Swordfish, Black Rain, Dreamgirls, and Word Trade Centre. Wait... Swordfish? This is supposed to be an incentive, not punishment...
Test market, anyone?

They are already doing this in other parts of the world... they did it in the US, I'm not sure if its still running but it was there, and they just brought it to canada recently. Also... HD-DVD has been outselling blu-ray for the past couple months, with transformers being released I don't see it slowing for the time being, so far from a sinking ship. Just thought I'd share that since you show it as a dead format when it is far from one.
