Atlus Announces Two Xbox 360 Games

Atlus USA has announced that it is now an official third party publisher for the Xbox 360, and then revealed plans to bring two games to the platform in North America: Idea Factory's Spectral Force 3 and Success's Operation Darkness. Based on the titles, they both sound like Sci-Fi Channel original movies starring some dude from Star Trek Voyager, but they're actually strategy/tactical RPGs, and Operation Darkness even has werewolves! Rowr!
Beyond support for both handhelds, Atlus USA has generally published games on the Playstation 2 in the last few years (with the notable exception of the Trauma Center games for the Wii). Having released Odin Sphere, Persona 3, and Growlanser: Heritage of War for that system this year, it's unclear whether this move to Xbox 360 is just part of an experiment or a more fundamental shift in their business practices. With their specialty in bringing niche or overlooked Japanese games to the American market, Atlus has developed a dedicated but relatively small following in the United States. Publishing games on the Xbox 360, more known for western style shooters and action titles, might prove to be an interesting and risky move for the company.
