Circuit City Claims CoD 3 Giveaway Was A "Misprint"
Have faith, fanboys of GameStop: we're more than happy to criticize other stores for questionable business practices when we get the chance. Over at The Consumerist, a reader sent in this note:
Today, like many anxious gamers, I went to Circuit City (Store # 3111) to pick up the highly anticipated "Call of Duty 4" for the XBox 360. I chose to pick it up at Circuit City as this week's circular ad listed a free copy of the previous game "Call of Duty 3" with purchase. When I went to check out, I was told that it was a misprint and that they refused to honor it. Myself, along with about half a dozen co-workers were rightfully angry that we wasted our lunch hour on this Circuit City bait-and-switch, that has become too common with this outlet lately. I would urge other Consumerists to skip out on Circuit City and try for another retailer (Target has a free $5 gift card).
Well, based on the ad, if it was a misprint, it was a mighty big one. Has anyone else experienced this problem at Circuit City?

I dont know what idiots are working there, but it wasnt a misprint. That was the actual promotion. Unfortunately, there werent many copies of CoD3 around and it was while supplies lasted.
Just so you know, i work for them and worked yesterday and handed out all my copies of CoD3 with CoD4.

all the time... i hate circuit city
Circuit City has NEVER honored a single promotion I've tried to take advantage of. I'm sure that's not the case 100% of the time, but I've gotten my hopes and dreams up way too many times to even bother looking through their flier these days.
Take it to a store that price matches. Bestbuy, Walmart, etc...
as a professional graphic artist, i find it "odd" that something like this can make its way from all the corporate approval channels through to the printer's without anyone stopping to question it.

Oh all the time, you will pretty much find a different experience at different Circuit Cities. Some honor the ads, some say its a misprint, some stores have xyz in stock while others don’t. Some CC have totally different prices then the other on the other side of town. It's insane.
For us the most recent f'up was when they offered buy one Xbox 360 accessory and get another one of equal or lower value free. People were scooping up Microsoft Points Cards, first the Circuit Cities around town sold out on this deal pretty fast but restocked in a few days, but when you went back in they told customers that the ad was a misprint. We just ended up price matching at best Buy and walked out with a TON of MS points. Best Buy didn’t even bat an eye and they were very happy to take my money.
