Elder Scrolls Online? Noooooo!!!

These are the kind of rumors I can do without, thank you very much. Apparently Bethesda's parent company's newly opened studio focusing on MMOs has registered elderscrollsonline.com. Now, sure, just because someone registers a domain doesn't mean that it'll come to pass. But hey, you never know...
See, the thing is, I've always loved the Elder Scrolls titles for being epic, open-ended worlds with countless ways to enjoy yourself. Basically being MMOs without having do deal with obnoxious jackasses who will kill you for your stuff and do dirty things to your corpse. To be honest, I've never actually played an MMO, basically out of fear of being overwhelmed and unwelcome as a noob. So Bethesda's games let me enjoy the exploration and wonder of an MMO without the M or the O. So I don't know how I would feel about the next Elder Scrolls game being online... I'd either avoid it like the plague, or it would finally be the game to get me to take the MMO plunge. What about you?
Elder Scrolls going online? Maybe [Joystiq]

maybe you should try an mmo. :) eve online for example has a pretty welcoming community if you play according to the rules.
I'll be firmly in the "avoid it like the plague" camp if it's online.
Oh, I'm firmly in the "Noooooooooooo" camp!
My boyfriend gets lost in Oblivion enough as it is--I can't imagine if it were a game he could play daily due to other folks.
I don't want to be an Olvion widower more than I already am!
Judging from your comments, I think you should at least TRY a MMO. Some of them are full of jackasses, but others have a lot of great people in them. And most these days are built such that the whole "someone kills you and steals your hard-earned stuff" thing doesn't really happen anymore.
I think you'd love City of Heroes. Has a very low jackass population and almost all of the combat is against the environment, not other players.
For me, the only thing that could draw me to an MMO was Star Wars Galaxies, especially once they added on the Lightspeed add-on and space combat. I enjoyed it for a few months but then finally realized I wasn't doing much involving Star Wars (I was a droid engineer fwiw).
I'm glad that I tried an MMO because it gave me SUCH a better insight into gamers and how they look at games you may not be interested in. So if you give it a try (or ANY MMO for that matter), you'll at least gain that experience and point of view.
And who knows, maybe you'll love it!
*Insert Darth Vader NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO here*
I'm not really that big on MMO's, and honestly, paying per month, having to deal with jackasses online, ugh, not exactly something pleasant.
Oh man, if this goes online, yeah, it'll be something I avoid.
I don't have anything against MMO's exactly (I've played most of the big ones, and have dealt with very few of the problem players people always worry about. I did almost get PlayerKilled in UO once, but one of the guys called it off because he was familiar with my character from my personal webpage, and he enjoyed my writings), and I think this COULD be a great idea, but to do it justice they'd need to make the map HUGE (people would be pissed if Cyrodill suddenly got smaller). If they can do that, and keep the atmosphere (and it's layers and layers of lore), it could be great.
That being said, if by making and MMO, they stop making single player RPGs, or the Elder Scrolls series suffers because of it, it'll be a sign that everything I worried would come to pass with my games has begun.
HELL NO. I wouldn't touch it with a 10ft. pole. Seriously, there are plenty of MMOs, we don't need Elder Scrolls to descend into that hideous mud pit.
But then again I'm a misanthrope.
Elder Scrolls MMO = No user made plugins = No buy.
Simple as that.
OK, as a player of an MMO ( LOTRO FTW! ) and a rabid fan of Oblivion, I'm right there with you in saying NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! The greatness of Oblivion lies in the escapism from the multi-player aspect. I can do all the cool quest stuff that an MMO has, get sexier weapons than they can ever dream of, and not deal with the general public. I think it would positively annoy me if I had to share my soul sucking sword with anyone else as a loot drop. Oblivion is wonderfully overpowered compared to an MMO and that would have to disappear in an MMO environment to make the spell casters not as squishy as the barbarians etc. which for me would kill half the fun.
How about something in the middle? I just would like the ability to bring one or a couple of friends into my world of Oblivion to show off my house, my outfits, etc. Maybe have them help me clear some dungeons. I would like to share what I have accomplished and created. But I don't want to jump into a world full of other Oblivionites.
