Harvey Smith "Quits" Midway After Controversial Speech

Wow, this is just not a good week to be mouthing off in public. Harvey Smith, who gave one of the more controversial and speeches in gaming history on Monday, has left Midway's Austin studio. Gee, what a shock, the man badmouthed the development of his game Blacksite: Area 51, going so far as to call it "fucked up" in front of the press, and Midway wasn't happy with him. Go figure.
Today, a Midway executive told ShackNews that Smith's speech at the conference was tantamount to a "public resignation."Smith was working out of Midway's Austin studio. Midway Austin studio head Denise Fulton confirmed the designer's departure, but refused to discuss the cause, saying only that it was "by mutual agreement between Harvey and the studio."
Mutual agreement, huh? Am I the only one who imagines that that situation involved a Midway executive shouting "You're fired!" while Smith screams back, "You can't fire me! I quit!"

Hey, by definition, that's still mutual, they both clearly disliked each other.
