Maple Story DS: MMORPG - MMO = A Platformer.

MWAHAHA!

It was bound to happen, but Maple Story DS has been refocused. The DS isn't exactly a massive multiplayer game platform. I, like a lot of people, do not usually have their DSes in a WiFi ready location. In a recent statement to Gamasutra, Jamie Kang of Nexon Korea’s international business division made some statements on the title.

It’s not an MMORPG type game, it’s actually typical action RPG. It’ll have different gameplay from the original version, more adapted to the platform itself.

A smart move, really. Focusing on single player action widens their target audience. Conversely, Maple Story is primarily an online game. With an existing formula that has been treating the company quite nicely, it would seem naive to remove the the internet functionality from the title entirely. Kane was brief about these details.

We have some features that support WiFi, but the main focus will be on single player

Does this mean we will be able to play the MMO at hotspots? Time will tell. It could be local LAN only. They already have the server backbone for online play. In the mean time, if you have not played the original, feel free to hop over to their page MapleStory.com. It's free, and it's a good way to kill a lunch break.

They could have followed the Animal Crossing model but I do think this kind of format will work for Maple Story. Very intrested in this either way.

Beh, I thought that this game was going to brake ground for MMO on the DS because honestly aren't handhelds kinda made for this? They are wi-fi out the box and can be taken anywhere. Well, its unfortunate because although I liked maple story I had put it down a while back... but was excited that it was coming to the DS because I was going to give it all a second try on one of my favorite systems. Whatever only time will tell we'll see what happens.

I wouldn't expect much from this game. Online Maple story's gameplay revolves almost entirely on the INSANE grind and buying fun outfits/enhancements for your toon from the cash shop. Oh and chatting it up with some ub3r l337 10 year olds who make it their life's work to intentionally mis-spell as much as possible (this makes them tuf guyz, you see).

Without any of the aspects that make MS bearable to people, you're left with the same old stale platformer we've been playing for nearly 30 years.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
