NeoGAF forum member Mamesj stopped by his local EB games, Nintendo DS in hand, to see if they had gotten any new demos for the system. Turns out they had at least one: Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, due for release next February. The game controls pretty much exclusively with the stylus, much like The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, but how well did they pull this off? If we're to believe Mamesj, swimmingly:
The million dollar question-- how are the controls? Like most people who have read about the all stylus control, my initial reaction was to cringe, but I eventually put my faith in Itagaki, and rightfully so-- the controls are damn near perfect. Zelda certainly proved it could be done, but Ninja Gaiden's input is more varied, due to Ryu having a much fuller move set than Link. In fact, all of Ryu's basic dragon sword move set is here, which fans of NG will notice.
Too bad they couldn't have debuted the Wii DS Demo Download Channel this weekend, or I'd have Ryo in my hands right now. Is five minutes of ninja bliss worth getting in the car, driving to an EB/Gamestop, and putting up with clerks peppering you about preorders? Let us know what you decide.
