Sex in Singapore: MDA Lifts Mass Effect Ban

Mass Effect

After all the stink about the Mass Effect ban in Singapore, the Media Development Authority (MDA) has had a change of heart. After the outcry, the MDA lifted the ban and will allow the game to be released into stores with an M-18 rating. This rating allows the game to be on shelves but will not allow it to be sold to minors. In a statement released by the Board of Film Censors, they chose to expedite the release of "highly anticipated games" until a new rating system can be put into place.

this will allow such games to enter the market with immediacy and give the industry and members of the public a better understanding of the benefits of the proposed games classification system

I guess too many people wanted this game and banning it over some lesbian heavy petting is a bit extreme. Nothing says a strong commitment to morals like fiscally influenced selective game ban pardons. Money grubbing aside, this is a HUGE win for the gay world. First step toward acceptance is exposure. I just feel for all those homos in Singapore still living in the closet.

It's a small step for Singapore, but hardly a step for the gays and lesbians living there. Acceptance is still a long way coming.

There's still no reason to ever go to Singapore, ever.

Shin, you've clearly never been to singapore, it's actually a great place to live, the gay rights laws are under debate with the media on our side, we have one of the lowest crime rates in the world, and none of the laws prohibiting homosexuality have been used since the seventies, they mostly remain because the conservatives don't want to give up their security blanket. At worst it's a little bit boring to live here for too long.
