Sony Christmas Line Up - Seen It All Before

Sony Computer Entertainment America have released their 'exciting' Christmas games schedule and I'm sure I'm not the only one to notice that there's not that much to go carol singing about.
Despite stating they're offering their biggest line up of 'quality software and hardware' in some time, seasoned gamers will no doubt feel a little ripped off by Sony and their grand claims. The majority of games they've noted as big releases are of course Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Ratchet & Clank® Future: Tools of Destruction, and The Eye of Judgement. What they have failed to mention of course is that most of the other titles they're lauding around are already out on other formats.
Other titles they've mentioned are Guitar Hero III, Call of Duty 4, Stranglehold and LEGO Star Wars Complete. Now, these are already out long before Christmas and are of course available on every console under the sun - is it just me or are Sony grasping at straws here?

Way to jump on the "Sony hate" train, Gadget Girl.
Considering all of the big three only have 3-5 great exclusives each, I don't see how this, or any other console's holiday lineup is anything to yawn at.
Halo 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock vs.
Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Haze vs.
Mario Galaxy, Metroid 3, Zak & Wiki.
As for the other games they mentioned that are other consoles, what's so bad about that? Oh yeah, I forgot - "journalists" think it gives them cred to bash Sony.
I'll say it does! =D
*showers gadget girl with creds*
I have to agree with DJ on this. This seems more like a hate piece and offers nothing of real value to the site.
If you look at console exclusives for the holiday season there really isn't a whole lot.
MS has Mass Effect coming out and Halo 3 released a little early to count for the holiday season.
Sony Has Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted. One is amazing while the other is sure to deliver.
Nintendo has Mario Galaxy and then NIGHTS.
To me it shows that Nintendo has the weakest lineup with nothing but sequels while the other two have a mild mix.
seriously.
you knew before you chose to write this bitchy little piece what games they had lined up. no need.
The fact that it's PS3's second holiday season and there's still no reason to buy it is definitely worth noting.
Maybe people aren't jumping on the PS3 hate train, they're jumping on the reality train and the reality is that the entire PS3 game library can't hold a candle to the other consoles' holiday exclusives.
Oh god, you guys get so defensive over the most ridiculous things. The truth hurts sometimes doesn't it?
Sony IS grasping for straws this Christmas and everyone knows it. At least the Wii and Xbox 360 have some games worth buying systems for to play.
Things are only going to get worse for Sony before they get better. The U.S. economy is entering another recession right before the holiday season.
If that won't hurt sales of luxury goods, then I don't know what will. At least the Wii still seems like a semi-reasonable purchase for Timmy and Suzie as a joint Christmas present for cash strapped parents.
My boyfriend had a PS3 for 5 months and we finally sold that thing after we read that Home and GTA:IV were both delayed till next year (see: the only reason to even consider a PS3 this year at all). We just got done playing some games on our Wii however. I'd never consider selling that.
Gadget Girl, keep on doing what you do. The "hate" will stop when Sony finally gets their act together.
I'll stick with my Wii, DS, PS2 and PSP for now. Sony can call me when they want to get serious.
I think the reason we PS3 owners sometimes get a little "defensive" about the issue is because we're told talking about games like Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted counts as "grasping at straws". This isn't Hannah Montana we're getting here, these are top-notch games and are getting amazing reviews.
A 2nd problem that's been bugging me is I don't quite understand why all the many terrific multi-platform games only seem to count as part of the 360's "amazing library" but when they're discussed for the PS3 it's seen as just Sony bluster. To be frank, I don't buy multi-plat games for my 360 because it's loud as hell and I'm afraid it's going to break. This leaves me Mass Effect on my 360 this Christmas season (and the forseeable future) and Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, and Haze on my PS3. Not sure who's grasping at straws here, but I'm no longer sure it's Sony.
Wow..... look at you guys goin' off LOL.
Who'd have thought a little PS3 bitchin' would have caused the handbags to come out. Lovely stuff. Oh and I have a PS3 by the way, so feel I'm entitled to make a comment on what I interpret as news and of interest.

You guys are a little too agressive, I agree with DJ, but hey, people with sony consoles should be used to this kinda thing by now... Remeber the PS2 launch, with developers complaining it was hard to develop for and the 2 years it took for the console to get decent games?
But it does aggravate me that people thinknon-exclusive titles only count for the Xbox. Hell, PS3 is getting Assassin's Creed! Kane & Lynch! Rock Band! The Orange Box! (who knows, maybe even UNREAL)
And Spaz is right. R&CF:ToD and Uncharted are not just a couple of fillers noone wants to play. These are highly anticipated games, top notch production.
What is microsoft's line up? Three month old games? Ok, Mass Effect. Anyway, go check the xbox's release list for the next two months.
Good to know that even within Niche Communities like ours, we still have no problem lashing out at one another. Good to know Jaded Journalism is alive and well also.
to Gadget Girl: Next time, try including a Link to the Christmas Line Up, so we can see just how "grasping at straws" it is for ourselves - might quell some of the storm. Unless it's there somewhere and I'm just blind..
"Oh and I have a PS3 by the way, so feel I'm entitled to make a comment on what I interpret as news and of interest."
...and the award for biggest cop-out line of the year goes to...
Seriously, how can you say the PS3 has a weak holiday line up with:
- Ratchet & Clank
- Uncharted
- Haze
- Assassin's Creed
- COD4
- Kane & Lynch
- Rock Band
- Guitar Hero III
- Orange Box
- not to mention the Warhawk expansion.
not to forget possibly UT3 (WITH user created content) and Burnout Paradise right around the corner too.
That's more than 10 strong reasons right there.
If you look at that list and can't see that it's a strong line up of games, I don't know what to tell you other than "sell your PS3" since it's obvious you're never gonna be happy with it.
Hooray for biased journalism!
“Who'd have thought a little PS3 bitchin' would have caused the handbags to come out.”
I agree, which is why this ‘article’ is more worthy in a forum or comment section somewhere other than on the main page. Maybe if this opinion piece or ‘PS3 bitchin’ had some value to it your reader’s handbags would still be clasped.
Personally, it is a bit hard to take this seriously considering both my PS3 & Xbox 360 get hardly anytime to rest...
...Meanwhile, my Wii just sits there, collecting dust...
Between my bf and I, my PS3 seems to be on almost non-stop. Plenty of content continues to make me very happy with my purchase.
Also, the fact that I'm really going to have a hard time rationing my time between all the games I want this holiday makes me disagree completely with this article.
So, yeah, I agree with ReignFury that this piece really seems like it's more suited to a forum than a front-page. No need to grab the torches and pitch-forks, though, guys!

Okay, lets establish the facts. More people own 360s than PS3s. As such, MOST people aren't going to see those multiplatform games as reasons to buy a PS3. Those people who own both tend to buy for the 360 because it delivers a superior online service (yeah, you have to pay for it, but it's well worth it compared to the crap that is Sony Online) and because they already own the system (that's the advantage of being first to market despite a malfunctioning product).
So there goes Assasin's Creed, COD4, Kane & Lynch (which sucks anyway), Rockband, Guitar Hero 3 and the Orange Box.
Any game not released before Dec. 25th isn't part of the holiday lineup, so now you've lost Burnout Paradise (which most multi system owners will buy for 360 anyway) UT3 (see burnout paradise) and the warhawk expansion.
So what exactly are you left with for compelling reasons to own a PS3 or to acquire one for Christmas? Ratchet and Clank, Haze and Uncharted (LIKE SHE SAID IN THE ****ING ARTICLE).
The article wasn't about people who already own a PS3 it was about those deciding which system to buy based on the games and right now the Wii and 360 are both better buys.
Will Sony have it's day? God I hope so. The PS1 and 2 had some great games and I hope the PS3 will too. But not this holiday season. So quit whining and accept that Sony dropped the ball. I've played every Metal Gear to come out and am looking forward to 4, but I for one wouldn't buy a system for one game and at this rate that is exactly the opposite of what Sony seems to be banking on, that we will purchase a system based on potential rather than performance.
And another thing. Don't call GG biased. Her article was fair and being as it was an opinion piece/analysis, she's free to come to whatever conclusions she draws. If you want to be angry with anyone, be angry with Sony for not securing more exclusive titles or for not developing a better (or even comparable) online system to XBL.
This is what the comparison looks like right now to the average gamer:
PS3: Heavenly Sword (that really pretty looking game with a whopping 5 and 1/2 hours of gameplay), Haze, Ratchet and Clank (longstanding proven franchise) and Uncharted.
VS
360: Halo3 (longstanding and proven franchise), Bioshock, Mass Effect (which really ain't that good to be honest), Beautiful Katamari, Ace Combat 6, and all the games that are multiplatform for 360 and PS3.
VS
Wii: Zelda (longstanding proven franchise) Mario Galaxy (longstanding proven franchise), Metroid prime 3 (longstanding proven franchise) and NIGHTS (less known but still...)
