Star Trek: Conquest Leaves Dry Dock

A little scared of diving into the original universe created for Mass Effect? (I know I'm holding off, but simply because I'm forcing myself to finish the RPG I've already got before I drop another $60 on yet another massive time suck) Well, why not boldly go where a few have already gone before and check out Bethesda's Star Trek: Conquest?
The action/strategy title is shipping now to retailers, and is available for both the PS2 and the Wii. (Why does the Wii always get lumped in with the last-gen PS2?) After choosing a side from the many races of the Trek universe, you strategize your way around your empire, building fleets and researching technology. Then, once you engage in battle, it switches to real-time combat. The Wiimote seems like a natural for the pointing-and-clicking of strategy games, but apparently you'll also be able to use it for aiming-and-shooting during the battles.
The thing that has me wary (other than the strategy — my brain wasn't made for such complicated nonsense) is the price point: $29.99 on the Wii and only $14.99 on the PS2. Bargain-priced gem or shovelware? Full release after the jump!
Bethesda Softworks Announces STAR TREK®: Conquest Now Shipping in North America
STAR TREK®: Conquest to be Available This Week for WiiTM and PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system
November 19, 2007 (Rockville, MD) – Bethesda Softworks®, a ZeniMax Media company, today announced that STAR TREK®: Conquest for the Wii™ home video game system from Nintendo and PlayStation®2 system is shipping to North American retail stores. Conquest features a blend of strategy and intense action set in the STAR TREK: The Next Generation® era and will be available on store shelves throughout North America as early as tomorrow.
Take control of Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Cardassian, Dominion, and Breen forces and lead them in a campaign to control the Galaxy, one planet at a time. You can build and manage your growing empire in turn-based strategy, fully utilizing the Wii Remote™ as you select and maneuver your Starships throughout the large, galactic map.
Strategically, you must effectively manage limited resources to expand your empire. You decide how to best achieve objectives by ordering your fleets and admirals, building support structures, researching technology, and engaging your enemies in combat.
Once battle is initiated, Conquest switches to a ship level tactical view allowing direct command of your ships as you engage in real-time combat. While maneuvering your Starship with the Nunchuk™, you can take direct aim and fire away with the Wii Remote™.
Conquest has been rated E for Everyone by the ESRB and will retail for an estimated MSRP of $29.99 on the Wii™ and $14.99 on the PlayStation®2 system. For more information visit http://startrek.bethsoft.com.

How many times will I be tricked into purchasing a sub par Trek game?
*sigh*
Well, maybe it'll turn out to be half decent at $29.99....
I am proud of myself for resisting the Siren call of the XBOX Live Battlestar Galactica crapfest.
Some of the Star Trek games aren't THAT bad...and they're usually cheap too...lately they've all been too similar though. None were as good as Armada II...and I can't wait for Star Trek Online!!
I had heard nothing about this game until now. I think I'm gonna rent it from GameFly.
I can't remember any really good star trek games that I've played. I'm really interested in Star Trek Online though.
My favorite Star Trek games were the Interplay 25th Anniversary and Judgment Rites games.
I also have fond memories of the original text based adventures on Commodore 64.
I wish someone would come up with a great Star Trek RPG.
