Super Mario Galaxy Breaks Sales Records

mariogalaxy_5.jpg

The marvelous Super Mario Galaxy is aces across the board. It's the best reviewed game according to Gamerankings, and it pushed an astounding 500,000 units during the first week of sales. Making Super Mario Galaxy the fastest selling Mario game and Wii game ever.

George Harrison, the senior vice president of marketing for Nintendo of America stated:

"Super Mario Galaxy had the strongest one-week debut of any Wii game to date and has also become the best-selling Mario title ever in its first week, with US sales of more than 500,000, based on internal sales figures. It makes an easy gift choice as the holiday shopping season kicks off."

Go Mario, people still love you after all of these years. Who has a copy? Raise your hands and post your impressions below. Is it as good as all of the hype that surrounds it? Or is it yet another typical platformer?

i bought this game and it is so much fun the way that the galaxies are and the way that they play with gravity is so awsome and i almost beat the game already.

It's been a long time since I've been actually addicted to a game. No matter how good a game is, I'll get antsy after a couple of hours--not so with Galaxy. It's gorgeous.

It's great. A good mix of gimmicky fun, 3D Mario, and side-scrolling platforming. Definitely makes me believe that Nintendo knows exactly how to make a FUN game.

I heard the "Gusty Gardens" score from the post yesterday, and I had to hear more. I bought the game last night, and can't wait to get back home from work to play more! It's beautiful and amazingly rendered! Yay, Mario's back!

While I sat with my shrinkwrapped Super Mario Galaxy taunting me as Nintendo fixed my broken Wii, I went back and played some Jak and Daxter.

Not that Jak and Daxter is a bad game, but it really made me appreciate how amazing Galaxy is once I finally got my Wii back. Jury's still out on whether I like it better than Sunshine (hey, that's the game that got me back into Nintendo, largely because at the time I thought the whole Mushroom Kingdom conceit was insultingly dumb) but it does have a shot.

I was talking to Beximus last night on the phone and we both realized why we both love this game over Sunshine: It's that they brought back the whole diverse worlds thing (desert, water, forest, haunted houses) that made Super Mario 64 so revolutionary.

The tropical theme in Sunshine was charming for a little while (would have been great if only one or two of the "worlds" were that way), but the over-usage of the island theme and art design was just not as compelling to me after playing it for a few days.

So, while I still haven't finished Sunshine, but I can't wait to finish Galaxy!

Mario Galaxy is really that awesome. It's the first Mario game that's as good as Super Mario 64 - forget those pretenders the Haunted Mansion (okay that wasn't really even pretending) and Super Mario Sunshine. This is the SM64 sequel you've been waiting for. Every inch painstakingly perfected.

I
love
this
game.

I used to think, well, Super Mario 64 made such a huge leap that it won't be until VR or holodecks that there will be another, but this comes really close. The controls are great, the worlds are really cool, and the gameplay is crazy.

It's so different than your standard platformer. I couldn't figure out how to get past the first little planet...until I realized I could run around to the bottom and I wouldn't fall off! It rewards you when it challenges you, and I have so much trouble quitting...I keep wanting to find just ONE more star...I didn't care for Super Mario Sunshine, but I don't see how I'm going to be able to send this back to GameFly anytime soon.

I haven't loved a game like this in many years. I've been humming the music, dreaming of being in the game world, and being overall delighted with the Renaissance of Mario.

Everyone needs this game. It's so far beyond anything that I've ever played in a game. It's like Mario 64 meets Mario 3 meets Katamari... :D

this is By far my favorite game on the wii so far.

its got everything going for it. beautiful environments. beautiful music. and it has lots of Mario 3 throwbacks wich is my favorite mario game ever. they brought back so many characters, Bullet bills (missile bills if you want to get technical) , Banzai Bills, caterquacks and what completely sold me was the airships and their songs.

The feeling you get while soaring through space is awesome and i feel Miyamoto and the mario team really outdid themselves this time. PLUS! the 120 star bonus. i wasnt expecting it but im definately happy its there as i felt it was overdue.

Mario Galaxy deserves all the attention and critical acclaim its been getting, as this is by far the most enjoyable 3D Mario game I have ever played. The precision and care that went into the crafting of this game places it well above anything else that has come out for the Wii and should be the benchmark of quality that all other games for this system (or any other, for that matter) should be judged.

And yet I've heard absolutely nothing that could conclusively explain why the title has sold so comparatively poorly in Japan. Now there's a bit of video game journalism I'd like to read.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
