The Great GayGamer Cross Country Roadtrip 2007

rotunda1_8a440.jpg

Well folks, this is it. I am finally making my big move across country from Atlanta back to San Francisco next week. Toots is joining me for the trip (he's not stying unfortunately) and we'll be leaving to drive the six day trip with plenty of stops along the way. Our current plan are to make overnight stops in Memphis TN, Oklahoma City OK, Albuquerque NM, Flagstaff AZ, and Las Vegas NV. So, if any of our readers are out in those cities, we would love to plan some GG gatherings (and maybe find some places to stay?). Just let us know in the comments if you would like to meet up because it would be great to see all of you!

Also, if anyone has any suggestions of things to see along the way, we love roadside attractions. and we should have a little bit of time as we travel from place to place, particularly between Albuquerque and Flagstaff. Already on the bill is a stop at Graceland in Memphis and the Spike Video Game Awards in Vegas, other than that we are free wheeling! We leave next Monday and you can be sure we will be documenting the trip with videos and pictures that we will do our best to post as often as we can.

Westward HO!

Aw Damn. It HAD to be Albuquerque, and not Roswell ;_;. Roswell has he UFO Museum...Well, that's about all. Still. Albuquerque gets ALL the fun stuff. *weeps* And I can't blame you for not picking Roswell. I'm probably like, the only person here who knows about the site at all.

Oh well. Have a nice trip anyways.

Well, if you're going to be passing through good ole' Oklahoma City (my god... gaymers are coming through!) then you should be sure to stop by and take a look at the Bombing Memorial downtown. It's actually really inspiring and solemn to look at. After that, have a walk around Bricktown and take in some of the sights. :)

Oh, and Aliento, I know all about the UFO Museum, for I was born in Roswell. w00t for the alien babies!

You'll have a nice trip though and enjoy you're sight seeing!

It's completely out of the way, but if you have time, I've heard great things about Carlsbad Caverns. It's in (Southern?) New Mexico, right next to the Texas border. It's the biggest cave system in the world and has some funky formations. It's a National Park, so they have tours and stuff. And, most importantly, a gift shop.

Wow! Someone on one of the sites I like is ACTUALLY stopping in Flag? NOT the infernal abyss that is Phoenix? Seriously?

I'm dragging me and my Bee Eff Eff down there, wherever you are. Totally.

Wow! Have a safe and enjoyable trip, guys! I made my trip from Mobile, AL to San Jose, CA in 3 days--I like your version with a bit of stopping for fun along the way a lot better!

Enjoy, and hopefully we'll all get to meet you in San Francisco soon!

**goosebumps at the thought of crushworthy Fruit Brute living in the area** LOL

I hope you're having a welcome home party when you get here! That's a fun cross-country drive, I've made it twice by myself. (Chicago to San Fran, actually)

If you end up taking Route 80 through Utah, keep an eye out for the giant concrete "tree" of spheres in the middle of the salt planes. It's impossible to miss. Also, salt plains are fun to draw things in. :D

The Albaturkey, er, Albuquerque to Flagstaff drive is pretty dull. Do go up the mountain in Alb in the tram, the view from the top of the mountain is beautiful. Between the two you have 4 corners, Monument Valley, and... well, that's about it. Flagstaff does have the Lowell Observatory which is really neat if you're into Astronomy. Really though Flagstaff is known for just not being Phoenix. It's where all the left over Arizona natives moved to when the valley began to suck back in the late 80s. Unfortunately it's become yuppified now as a cabin/resort town for the Arizona brand of yuppies. Also, if you swing through Tucson, go see the Sonora Desert Museum, Old Tucson, and Rawhide. OH! and you can go see Biosphere 2 which does provide for an interesting day trip. Good luck and Have fun!

When do you expect to be in Memphis?

That is where the mighty Taymar Palace is.

As an archaeologist, I insist you visit Chaco Canyon. It's about 2 or so hours from ABQ. :-)

Yeah, there's a lot of good tourist-worthy stuff in Arizona. We're kind of a kitschy state, but I'm OK with that.

And really, "not being Phoenix" is a big enough recommendation in my book. Sorry to any Phoenixians who may be reading this, but something about that city makes me hate it with unbridled rage.

I do enjoy watching "Medium," though.

Hey! This is Bluebreaker! Where around Las Vegas are you guys staying at and can I join you for the Spike VGA's as a guest? I am a local and would like to talk about your experiences as a game blogger/journalist and of course play loads of games!! If you have my e-mail address on file just send me a message. Been very interested in meeting you, Brute!

On the way from ABQ to Flagstaff is Petrified Forest National Park. You can drive through the park and see some interesting badland formations, the Painted Desert (which is mostly pink) and some petroglyphs. If you actually get out of the car and walk a little you will see some petrified wood and maybe some fossils. It is pretty in its own unique way and I would strongly suggest it. Just don't steal any petrified wood!

You can always check out the Habana Inn in OKC. I surprised myself once on a drive back to Texas by staying there and having a really great time. Very friendly locals, great drinks, good music.

Enjoy the scenery and drive safely, you two!
