To Criminals on the Lam: You've Won Some Fabulous Prizes!

I would just like to state that either this is the most brilliant ploy ever, or these felons are really quite stupid. I've not decided which. Chief Richard Wiles of El Paso, Texas announced Monday the promising results of a sting operation between November 5-9. 115 fugitives were arrested after being lured by promise of a television, Xbox and other various prizes.
Wiles went on the comment on the success of the operation.
We are very pleased with this operation. This is the kind of operation that really benefits the community of El PasoI think it is important for the citizens of El Paso to know what the Police Department is doing and what the U.S. Marshal's Office is doing because we do take these outstanding warrants very seriously and we want to put the resources into getting these people behind bars,
After it was all said and done, 115 arrests were made, 129 warrants were cleared and over $25,000 was collected in clearing up traffic violation fines. The lesson to learn from this? If you have a warrant out for your arrest, don't fall for this trick. Felons don't generally win the lottery. Over-excitable elderly women do. I'm still waiting for my big check Ed NcNahon.

Um, is this reminding anyone else of the "free boat" episode of The Simpsons?
