Video: You Get To Shoot At Stuff In Mass Effect
Gamevideos.com has a short clip of a battle starring Mass Effect's Soldier class, showing off the main character taking advantage of a variety of cover and blasting aliens. Or robots. Or alien robots. The action seems to be at a faster pace than most prior Bioware titles, even dipping into Gears of War territory.
One of my many secret gaming shames is I only got as far as the Sand People in the original Knights of the Old Republic, so I'm excited but the teensiest bit wary about this game. Once the NDAs break and more reviews hit the web my fears will probably be assuaged, but I haven't gone out and preordered the thing yet. Anyone else in the same boat, or is everyone else pretty much already Gung Ho! or Hell No! as far as Mass Effect is concerned?

Hmm I don't really like my RPGs to be that action-oriented, but I'm still looking forward to this one.
Oh yes, I plan to get this one... and I'm going to make my character look like Fanny Brice. Fanny Brice IN SPACE!
Seriously though: I love the fact that the combat looks action based, rather than turn based. While turn based can be fun, it inevitably gets repetitive once you find your optimal combo and use it over and over for all but the hardest bosses. Forcing you to aim and find cover (while using your optimal combo) will make things interesting.
I haven't even got a 360 yet and I'm about ready to plop money down on Mass Effect. The trailers that I've seen so far look great, the fact that It's a 3rd person shooter (kinda), AND an RPG makes me a little excited, that, and the Gamestop store that I'm a manager at - we're number ONE in the NATION for reserves for Mass Effect. Pretty freakin' rad....but I think I might be caught up in the hype a little. Ha!
