We Need A CSM To The Service Desk: Gutted Xbox Returned For Refund

If there is anything that will get you fired from a managerial position in retail, this is it. Someone managed to take a Xbox 360 Premium to some undisclosed retail outlet. While this would normally be considered a so what, the Xbox was missing a few key components when the "associates" examined the box more closely.
The Xbox 360 in question was missing it's hard drive, a controller (wireless), and all the cabling. The cabling had been replaced with miscellaneous computer cabling (parallel and vga) while the actual internal bits of the 360 were substituted with an re-boned medical journal for weight. Crafty people. Normally this sort of thing would not fly, as most anyone who works in an electronics store would be trained or otherwise experienced with the systems. Drummer8946, the man bringing us the story, gave some reasoning as to why this happened.
Well the guy that was working that morning was by himself, so we cannot under any circumstances leave the dept. So the girls that work at the service desk were told to see if everything is in the box, and approve....Fail!! Obviously they did not do a very good job...Management was/is still looking into who had approved itoh yeah and the person did have a receipt.
No one mentioned why the girl did not take the Xbox back to the electronics department where this fellow was located. I have never in my life seen one person working a return desk, let alone during the holiday season. I'm going to chock this one up to "I was busy, and I couldn't be bothered". My advice to that poor girl who did the return is to use her employee discount while she still can.
So someone returned an xbox at our store.... [YouGamers Forums]

More piccies after the jump.

Have you ever spent much time studying the service desk? I will constantly only see one person at my store's service desk, and one person over in Electronics. CHALK it up to management trying to save money by only scheduling one person up there.
Now that that's over with, yes, she should have checked. But customers can be horrible evil people when they're waiting in line... o_O

As a former Associate at Wal-Mart (Assuming this is where this is from...) I worked as a CSM and a Service Desk Associate and all I can say is poor guys :(.
That is such a hard job t do! The fact this went unnoticed by the girls working up there does not surprise me. I am A) Mean, and B) a Gamer so this would not had flown if I were working. However I have an unfair advantage (See: A & B). In the day i used to do all the electronics returns because I knew about the stuff. of course I would call electronics to verify but I could do it myself if need be (All my nerdy homeboys in the electronics depo knew this to...lol) but the other girls i worked with could not tell an x-box from a toaster.
This reminds me of two stories, story 1:
Short and sweet, we had a TV returned and unverified. When the box was later opened up (This was during x-mas) it was a rock. (pwned)
2:
An x-box was also returned to us gutted. It was missing some hardcore stuff but it was all internal. I was not around for this one but the rumor was that once it got back it was reshelved, sold, then returned the next day with these allegations. Upon inspection I guess somehow they decided that it was messed up before we sold it. I dunno, sounds a bit iffy but that still what I heard *shrug*
Oh well, if management does punish (Hopefully with whips) the associate I would be very disappointed. Its like asking someone who works in toys to verify a species from fish from the pets department ("WHAT KINDA FISH IS THIS!?" "ERR...Legos?") It would not go well.
