Xbox On Lockdown: New Parental Controls Announced

It is always a bit of a hot spot when it comes to dealing with responsible video gaming. Regardless where you stand on the issue of video game maturity ratings and questionable subject material, parental involvement is a definite must for anyone looking after impressionable minds. Today Microsoft, in association with Parent Teacher Association, announced new parental controls for the Xbox 360.
These new controls are associated with the PACT program, a "proactive approach to setting rules on media use, and asks parents and children to agree on the level of Parental involvement". The new system will feature additional levels of game rating management, play time monitors and the now confirmed play timer. The play timer will limit the amount of time a child will be allowed to commit to gaming on a daily or weekly scale. On-screen warnings will notify the gamers when their time is coming to a close, ultimately locking down the machine until the next playable cycle.
I'm all for advanced parental controls. Creating a system which limits children's access to games can only further limit the responsibility and need to censor of developers. Who cares if someone can buy a game underage if they simply can't play it? Proactive parenting for the win!
