A Rock Band By Any Other Name Would Smell As Sweet

Everyone thinks about it now and then - what would you do if you finally sat down and learned how to play that guitar you got when you were 14 and ignored ever since, or what might happen if the world suddenly appreciated your unique vocal styling? Just about the first thing you'd need is a name, and you can't just pick one out of a hat. Finding something that looks equally good on a marquee and a trapper keeper is tough, and the world is littered with bands saying, "Man, I wish we weren't so high when we came up with that one."
Simon Carless of Gamesetwatch (and a few other places) took a look at the top 1000 names in Rock Band and noticed some patterns emerging. He eventually came up with four categories, including Pop Culture Reference, Totally Surreal, Mock Serious, and Wholly Descriptive Names, which only contained one name in the top 1000, although it was my favorite: We Broke The Drums.
Any tips for band names? I suggest watching old movies with the subtitles on, reading old books with a highlighter in your hand, or just recording crazy people on the street. With that last one, even if you don't get a band name, just give the conversation a good beat and sample in some Beach Boys or bad 80's hit, then send it to Stereogum or Gorilla vs Bear. Instant internet fame!
Rock Band: The Best Of The Best... Band Names? [GameSetWatch]

My favorite one I've ever heard was an emo band called Suffocate Me Lonely.
I'm thinking of starting a Rock Band called Are You OK.
The name will probably be gone by when I actually get Rock Band.
