Devil May Cry 4 Playable At New York Anime Festival
A month ago, Capcom informed us that the collector's edition of Devil May Cry 4 would contain the first four episodes of the new anime, as well as some other appropriately collectible extras. Now ADV, the North American licensor of the anime series, is returning the favor and has announced that they're bringing the first publicly playable demo of the game to the floor of the New York Anime Festival. I'm sure all you cat-girls and Man-Fayes are giddy with excitement.
The event will also host the first public screening of the localized anime (aside from all those nefarious fansubbers watching it in back alleys and opium dens). ADV President John Ledford gushes:
This is an unprecedented cross-promotion. Anime and video games intersect on so many levels, but this is the first time a game publisher and an anime studio have combined forces in this way. CAPCOM isn't just delivering a preview episode but the full DVD – they've provided an incredible value to the consumer and a great way to spread anime in game circles.
Also in the announcement are additional details on the collector's edition. People who buy Devil May Cry 4 in the $80 version will be able to enter their information at the ADV website and receive a DVD case for volume 1 of the anime, as well as a $5 coupon for the collectible slip-box version of the series' second volume. Is that enough to make the extra $20 worth it? It bumps me a little closer to the "yes" column. I may even preorder! The game and goodies will be available for both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions February 5, 2008. A PC version should be out the same day, sans all the extra stuff, but at a bargain $39.99 price point. The New York Anime Festival is taking place December 7-9 at Manhattan's Jacob Javits Center.
