Sega Thinking About Dreamcast 2 Or Is It Just A Dream?

Website Trademork have happened upon a curious filing from Sega. The filing is a new application to trademark the word Dreamcast. My first thought was that maybe they are just applying again to protect the name, but, according to Trademork, the trademark is still active. The application, which was filed in August of this year, includes things like consoles, controllers, and "video game interactive controller, namely, hand held pads, and floor pads or mats; joysticks for video games; computer cursor control devices, namely, computer mouse; flash memory cards; video game software, computer game programs."
I don't remember the Dreamcast using hand held pads or mats, do you? It may be nothing, but you cannot ignore that it does seem a little odd. Especially the bit about the pads/mats (the original Dreamcast had neither) and the flash memory cards (far different today than the VMUs from the original Dreamcast as Trademork points out). Sega did say years ago that it was out of the console business forever. Could they be rethinking that sentiment? You decide! While you do that, I'll go think about playing it this weekend. It looks lonely.

Oh wow! I love the Dreamcast, I'm very curious about what Sega has in store for us. I guess only time will tell.
or maybe they're preserving the name for Dreamcast titles to appear as downloadable games for consoles...
The only pad I can think of was for Samba de Amiga. It held the sensor bar to determine how high you were holding the maracas.
I know this game is coming out for the Wii, but I'm assuming they'll just use the Wiimote instead of new peripherals.
I agree with OnTheQT, it's probably for virtual console stuff.
There's no way the Wii could emulate a Dreamcast, it's not powerful enough. They'd have to build the games up from scratch if that's what they're planning.
