Dreamcast 2 Still A Dream

Last night, we found out that an application had been made to trademark the name Dreamcast along with some unusual language referring to pads/mats and flash memory cards. I had thought that perhaps Sega was going to explore the creation of a new console in the already crowded market. It turns out that the Dreamcast will remain a dream in our minds.
Sega of America PR Director Charlie Scibetta told GameDaily that Sega "has no plans to get back into the console business." He added the following:
"We're very happy being a platform agnostic company and have moved up the ranks the past three years from #11, to #9, and now stand at #6 in terms of our market share by units among third-party publishers. We like our current strategy and have no plans to change in the middle of this outstanding growth."
So there, no Dreamcast 2 on the way and Sega is happy where they are. It is for the best, especially after the beating Sega took form the Saturn and, of course, the Dreamcast. If Sega were to make a new console, what would you want on it? Would it survive the market? Give us your opinions!

I would so buy a new Sega console! :)
I would definitely buy a new Sega console in hopes of a Power Stone sequel ^.^
Now first off, I have always been kind of a nintendo gamer, going game boy (yes, also game teen and game adult), SNES, (PSX), N64. I now own every SEGA console *except* for the Dreamcast, and have always considered them technically inferior. Sometimes because of raw strength that went nowhere (Genesis), sometimes because of overspecialization that went unused (Saturn).
I've always wondered how some Genesis games in particular would have turned out if the makers had used the possibilities of rival consoles. Streets of Rage 2, Gunstar Heroes and Shining Force were absolutely awesome, but more colors and especially better sound wouldn't have harmed them. Yuzo Koshiro must have spent many a night cursing the Genesis for its lack of a sound processor.
If anything, I'd want a Genesis 2, maybe they'll call it Exodus... The only way the market would support a 5th contender though would probably be a sub-$100 system. That does emulation. Or is otherwise very 2D/Retro-focussed.
I would definatly buy a new Sega console! *dances* I shall continue to hope!
oh heck yeah, I would buy a new Sega console. If the tattoo of the Sega logo on my right arm does not prove my love for THE best gaming companies out there :)
I don't buy systems out of any sort of weird corporate loyalty; I buy them because they have the games I want to play. That said, Sega's previous consoles had very few games that I really wanted to play, so I doubt I would spend the money unless something drastically changed and they got Final Fantasy and Mario or something equally good. The older Shining games come close, and I really enjoyed Panzer Dragoon Orta on the Xbox, but Sonic doesn't do it for me, and I can't really think of any other Sega franchises that interest me terribly much.
I jumped on the Dreamcast bandwagon before it even launched, preordering mine the week I was able and picking it up on 9/9/09. I would likely do the same with a Dreamcast 2, but only if there was sufficient 3rd party support for such a platform.
Oh, Sega...you continue to tease me with your coy denials.
I'd love seeing them get back into the hardware game, because I loved my Saturn more than my Playstation, and I continue to like the Dreamcast more than the PS2 or 360.
Alas...it shall remain thus, only a dream...
I have 2 3/4 Sega consoles, Genesis-Sega CD, & 32x, & the Dreamcast. I like these consoles a lot. But...
Sega really dropped the ball on the Dreamcast. It was my first Sega product, one I was actually excited for. But they didn't support the console itself adequately. The ad's/commercials were practically nonexistent. The game commercials were almost as bad, even from other companies. It sort of seemed they wanted to fail.
I realize they didn't have Nintendo's savior Mario/Miyamoto, Zelda. Or MS, Sony's deep pockets. But with the Genesis they proved they could compete publicly, getting people's attention, why they didn't with the DC I don't know.
When I read that there could possibly be a DC2 I had mixed feelings, but it was over all excitement. Now I can still be glad they're making games. Another Orta game would be nice.
To be perfectly honest I don't think I'd bother getting a Dreamcast 2 as I'm perfectly happy with the Wii.
I think it's probably a good thing if Sega don't make their own console 'cause then it frees them up to just focus on the great games they make.
bleh... I wouldn't get another sega console...
I have every system of theirs since the genesis up to the dreamcast, and they were fun, no denying that. Yet as time has gone on I realised the only games I wanted from them were sonic games, and the adventure series left me really irked with camera issues and so forth =p
They're good with where they are now, sending sonic off to play with mario mainly, and bringing nights back on the wii. Besides bet the stress of not having to make sure your console sells like hot cakes must be a major weight off of their backs :D
