Hijackers Kidnap Driver, Steal Massive Game Shipment

rockbandcover.jpg

Gone are the days of diamond heists and bootlegging liquor, as it seems the new cash crop for criminals comes in the form of stolen video games. It seems that some clever thieves managed to kidnap the driver of a truck carrying copies of Rock Band and then make a clean getaway with the cargo of roughly 1000 units. Thankfully, the driver was released unharmed, but the value of the stolen games totaled mored than $170,000.

Los Angeles authorities say they have no suspects in the theft, but that they believe it was an inside job, citing the thieves' ability to target an unmarked truck and make off with the goods with such precision.

While thefts involving hijacked trucks are rare, the loss of goods from the Los Angeles port system has become so common over the last decade that state legislators recently "[passed] a bill that made cargo theft a crime punishable by as many as four years in prison."

Apparently, four years would be an incredibly light sentence for these thieves... they could get a life sentence (if they're caught) thanks to the kidnapping charges which will be brought against them.

Is this why we still don't have Rock Band in Canada? They keep getting hijacked?
