Home Beta Scheduled For Q1 '08

We at the Castle have been watching the development of Home for quite some time. The closed beta started earlier this summer past, and there were a few of us clamoring to get in first to decorate our apartment with all sorts of knick-knacks and gorgeous little things. Our darling Dawdle noted earlier this month: "Playstation Home is still set to launch in March 2008, but an open beta test is expected before then." Well dear, your wish came true.
Jack Tretton, CEO of SCEA noted in a Mercury News interview today:
"We're looking to do a beta in the first quarter of calendar 2008."
That's great, the game should launch in the first quarter of '08 with a Beta before then. Setting a hard deadline and releasing a date for the Beta would have been preferable, but at least it gives us some time to pick out color swatches to scan with our PlayStation Eye, and do something really dazzling.

The AbFab reference was brill!
I just really don't get the excitement about Home. I look at it and I just say "Who cares?" Can someone explain to me what people are all psyched about?
