Indie Hotness: Aquaria Has Been Released!
Over the past few months, we at the Castle have been following the development of Aquaria, and I'm pleased to announce that the game has been released and is ready for purchase directly from the official site. The initial offering from developer Bit Blot, Aquaria invites players to explore,
A massive ocean world, teeming with life and filled with ancient secrets. Join Naija, a lone underwater dweller in search of her family, as she explores the depths of Aquaria. She'll travel from hidden caves, shrouded in darkness, to beautiful, sunlit oases, all lovingly handcrafted by its two creators.Naija's story, narrated fully with voice overs, will become yours, as you join her on this magnificent adventure.
The title is huge, featuring:
- Over 175 strange and wonderful creatures (including several massive and ancient "bosses")
- 8 magical forms with unique abilities
- 50 original music tracks by Alec
- Over 2000 pieces of hand-painted artwork by Derek
All of this for $30 is a great offer. Included in the full version of the game, you get editing tools to create your own levels and share your mods with other players. Most coverage of the game has been overwhelmingly positive, winning the Seumas McNally Grand Prize Award and the 2007 IGF. There is a demo available to try before you buy. I would recommend this title to any fan of the Ecco the Dolphin series and anyone who would like to see the best that Indie game development has to offer.

I have a feeling that Toots will be so happy that come next Haloween, he will happily dress up in the main character and have a large smile the entire day...something I'm sure would make the developers ecstatic!
