Miyamoto Burns Insomniac Over "Inspiration"

I must have missed Kikizio's October 3rd interview with Insomniac Marketing Director Ryan Schneider, otherwise I might have raised an eyebrow at one of his comments. When asked if he's found influences of Ratchet and Clank in other games, Schneider points to the concept of spherical worlds and replied, "It would be amazing to think that Miyamoto-san thought that [spherical worlds] was so cool that he wanted to incorporate it into Mario Galaxy!"
In an upcoming issue of Official Nintendo Magazine UK, the icon himself is asked what he thought of Insomniac's comments. Miyamoto explained that they had been experimenting with the concept since finishing Super Mario 64 and that "It's not an idea we got from anywhere else. I'm sorry, but I have to admit that I've never seen the game in question. Is it a PC game?"
OUCH! Nice burn, Miyamoto-san! No more fire flowers for you! Llet it never be said that you can't end a fight without throwing a single punch. Keep reading at CVG for the entire interview with the Ninten-deity.
Miyamoto's "Never Seen" Ratchet And Clank [CVG]

The best part is that this is a comment only Miyamoto can make. He's just so innocent and nice, that the comment doesn't seem mean at all. However, I think that makes it even more of a burn for Insomniac, in some ways.
A very nice burn indeed.
@MuddBstrd:
I dunno, I don't think Miyamoto is neither innocent/nice/nor sheltered, like many would like to believe.
I think crap like that awful, petty stunt he pulled a while back, taking some PSPs and bashing them while parked on the side of a highway, laughing all the way really established a precedent for me of his mean-spirited childish behavior.
I don't doubt that this comment was just a catty comment made because of his giant ego, and I think he's a worse person because of it. I really think he deserves the incredibly mean and immature fanbase he has acquired.

What the hell are you talking about? Link/Source?
Right after the launch of the PSP, Miyamoto and Iwata bought some PSPs, parked along the side of a busy highway, and proceeded to destroy them with bats. They took pictures, which were posted on the internet soon after. The pictures depicted them loling at the destroyed handhelds, and it was supposed to "illustrate how irrelevant they felt the PSP was".
I'm trying to find the pictures, I'll post them ASAP.

Hmm... Wow. I smell fanboy stink. The Sony group has openly bashed and mocked Nintendo and Microsoft for years anyway, so calling Shiggy out like that is rather pointless.
If they had been trying out the idea since M64.. why just now? Why not Mario DS, or Mario Sunshine?
I don't know, he's an extremely talented game designer, but I don't think he's above doing something like that.
But then again, none of us know the guy personally. So me pontificating is a bit pointless.
Oh, come on, like insomniac wasn't aiming at gaining some recognition with that statement....
And miyamoto wasn't inocent nor childish with that comeback, it was actually quite cold and cruel....
but insomniac wasn't the first to do spherical worlds on videogames, yoshi's island, sonic 3d, and others were before.
fact is none of them had the idea first... and to take credit for inspiring the concept of another plataform videogame is something perhaps only few can do, mario bros being one of them.
And miyamoto cannot honestly say that he draw no inspiration for galaxy, the idea must have come from somewhere, be it a game or not.
none of them is honest, and they both are going for some recognition.
P.S.: @kenji. First, i doubt that event is real.
Second, seriously... because sony hasn't been childish or plain dumb in their statements against nintendo......

There's been fanboy stink all over this place, and not just by him but mostly the 360 fanboys. I'm not taking his side, but Microsoft thumpers are in the same boat here, especially here at GayGamer. Just look at most of these articles.
PrinceLandon is onto something there.
These comments are epic.
Miyamoto and Iwata publicly batting PSPs? Kenji, how do you come up with something so awesomely ridiculous? Hey Fruit Brute, anyway to borrow the Hammer from Kotaku for outlandish displays of foolishness like this?
Gaygamer 360 biased? Prince, you feel like pointing out an example instead of a vague "just look at most of these articles?" Because when I see the front page I'm seeing PC, Console and Handheld gaming represented evenly and fairly.
For cereal, EPIC!
Yeah..how about looking beyond just the first page next time. You may notice they're mostly promotions of 360 games in big bold font while the rest discuss how much the PS3 sucks, and how the Wii is not for hardcore gamers.
On top of that, the writers have openly admitted before to being 360 biased.
Prince: I did. I saw a variety of topics and opinions. Discussing the flaws of something doesn't make someone biased. It just makes them critical thinkers. It's nothing to get personally offended by.
I believe that when *a* writer here "admitted to being biased" that it was done with a little bit of humor, and not a trolling manner. Compare the writers here to other blogs and I think you'll find they're pretty balanced. I don't think we'll be seeing anyone here make claims like Evil Avatar did about the DS.
It's not like "spherical worlds" and changing gravity is some amazing new concept anyway - Sega were doing this back in 2001 with Sonic Adventure 2. Mario Galaxy just does a really good job of it and turns it into a major gameplay element instead of a minor one.
I kind of put Shiggy in a similar category as I put Michael Jackson, way talented but possibly so loony and out of touch with "normals" that he could well have no idea what is going on in the world outside of his little imaginary one. Thus, I wouldn't actually put it past him to have no idea what this one other series has been doing with spherical worlds. So, basically, Michael Jackson-like without the late onset creepiness.
