NiGHTS: Into Dreams PS2 - Japan Only. Tears.

Sadness

About two weeks ago, I mentioned that there was a port of the fantastic Saturn title NiGHTS: Into Dreams to the PS2 in the works. My anticipation for this title came to an abrupt end today with when Sega Nerds caught up with developer Takashi Iizuka.

There are currently no plans for the PS2 version to be released outside of Japan, and no plans for a Wii version either. It is being released in Japan, due to the high demand for the game. So there are no plans for a worldwide release... so far.

I think I just had a small stroke. Sadness aside, it looks like this will be one title I will be importing. He did say so far, and if we are getting titles like Chulip here, it seems slightly unnerving that one of the biggest Sega Saturn titles ever created would get a Japan only release. Keep your eyes peeled folks, but be prepared to shell out some extra bucks to places like play-asia.

this has been the same across the board for all of the Sega Ages releases in Japan. many great Saturn titles have gotten this treatment. (Panzer Dragoon, Dragon Force, Virtual On, Virtua Fighter II) further, this line expands into the Genesis and Master System, with titles like Gunstar Heroes, the Phantasy Star series, Golden Axe, etc.

Whoa, this was getting remade for the PS2?! Pre-ordering at Play-Asia right now! I haven't played the original, and know almost nothing about the game, but from what I've heard of it, it's a must-play.

I wouldn't be too sad guys. I really don't think this game has aged all that well. It's unique and is worthy of some warm fuzzies (though in my case, that may just be nostalgia). But it's a very short game (3or 4 stages iirc), very simple gameplay (not necessarily a bad thing) but mostly it's the on-track-ness that was almost disappointing back when I first played the game when it was released, might just seem lame these days.

i dunno though, if you absolutely must have every super-stylized, super wacky cult classic ever released, it's worth an import. I really loved this game back in the day, but looking back, it may very well have been kind of over-rated :x
