Square-Enix Goes Modern, World Ends

Save me Jeebus!!!

Known as Subarashiki Kono Sekai in Japan, The World Ends With You is set to be released on the 2 bright screens of Nintendo's DS. The game is by the same folks who brought us Kingdom Hearts, so that at least says it'll be good. I hope. For you reading pleasure, I give you the premise, as only a PR person can provide:

Set in Tokyo’s trendiest district, the story begins with the lead character Neku waking up to find a phone message stating he has only 7 days before he will cease to exist. Only with the coolest fashions, friends and fighting skills can Neku restore hope to the city’s population and prevent being stricken from existence altogether!

The story begins as our hero, Neku, wakes up amidst the hustle and bustle of Shibuya, Tokyo. Confused and disoriented, he receives a message on his phone warning him that he will cease to exist unless he completes a certain mission. With his life seemingly on the line, Neku plunges into the back streets of the urban labyrinth...

You see that? Only with the coolest fashions can you bring hope and save existence as we know it!! Nothing quite like looking fabulous while you save the world, right? On top of that, an awesomely varied soundtrack of rock, techno and hip-hop will accompany you on your journey. There will be an "innovative and intuitive combat system that makes full use of the Nintendo DS Touch Screen, Dual Screens and Microphone like no other game before it!" As you can see, the artwork will be pretty nice to look at too.

You can the screenshots and art along with the press release after the jump. Here's hoping it lands in North America after the PAL territories.

Did they forget about, oh, I dunno, Parasite Eve? Or does that not count since it was a "Squaresoft" title and not a "Square Enix" title?

They effin'better well keep the original music.
I don't need another game ruined to me because game makers think westeners can't apreaciate Japanese music.
No Elite Beat Agents redux please.

I got that in Japan when I went there 2 months ago. I thought the translation was "This Wonderful World"

I'm pretty sure they'll mess up the soundtrack since its songs with Japanese lyrics in it and I wouldn't be surprise if they translated into English (*cough* Utada for Kingdom Hearts *cough)

I thought it was called 'It's a wonderful world'... Lost in translation or copy write infringement?

I loathe Shibuya but I really want to give this one a whirl.... I'm assuming the title is being changed for several reasons, copywrite included, but the most salient is probably that of the basic product image.
There's something inherently saccharine about the translation "It's a Wonderful World" (for one, it conjures up images of "It's a Wonderful Life"), although it's relatively close to the Japanese.

Wow, is this ANOTHER game coming to Europe before the US?

This is getting a little weird.

Nexus said:

Yes, because 2 games for every 100 that get released in the US first is so outragous.
How dare they do anything beneficial for European gamers, right?

ummm she wrote both songs the way she wanted to, i dont see how this ruined the soundtrack...

Utada is one of my favorite artists both in japanese and english...

in no way did it ruin kingdom hearts
